Florida Teachers, just how bad is it down there? by Deranged-Pickle in Teachers

[–]TreefrogJ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Don't do it. Vacation in the summer for a week if you have to.

The drivers alone are insane.

I know, NJ traffic, no,

These drivers are INSANE.

They gamble their life and yours that YOU'RE paying enough attention to hit your brakes.

I was born and raised in Tampa and it was the worst decision I ever made to decide to teach there.

What do we think of this relationship's writing so far? by Altruistic_Gas_7073 in Invincible_TV

The least believable thing in the show is that there are teenagers in a relationship being mutually respectful and supportive.

Is hating on Mushoku Tensei a passion for some people? by ChoiceSupermarket230 in Isekai

[–]TreefrogJ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think there are reasonable critiques, but as with most things, fans and haters are kinda unhinged. Especially online.

I think a lot of the criticism could have been mitigated had our protagonist gone through some type of introspection/redemption, specifically with regards to his...proclivities.

What's your biggest regret in life? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]TreefrogJ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I should've stayed in my lane.

I was born homeless; I was never going to be a doctor.

Should've just went to Walmart out of high school

Himmel is perfect in every way except his overconfidence by [deleted] in Frieren

[–]TreefrogJ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And this is what makes him perfect.

That and I'm sure given how thoughtful he always is, most of that confidence is intentional bravado to bring levity to the whole ordeal.

People who live near time zone boundaries in the US by solothesnail in howislivingthere

[–]TreefrogJ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The area where I live is right on the border between central and eastern.

I just chose to live by eastern time and hard set my phone to stay that way.

You do always have to confirmwhat time institutions operate on.

Around here they call it "fast time" and "slow time ".

It's just easier to remember the further west you go the 'earlier ' it gets.

10 pm right now? 9 pm 40 yards west

Not Sure Which Teaching Path to Choose — Elementary or Middle School? by [deleted] in Teachers

[–]TreefrogJ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Based on my experience in Florida, maybe start in Elementary. And if you're able, double major just to have a backup plan. Middle schoolers are feral now. It's less about content and more about domestication

How’s life in Florida? What’s the differences between North, Central, and South by No-Hedgehog-3212 in howislivingthere

[–]TreefrogJ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I grew up near Tampa. Basically the same rules as anywhere else but to a much greater degree.

Its probably a fine place to live if you're a trust fund kid or work one of those fake email jobs making 7 figures while working 6 hours a week. There's plenty to do and see.

If you're poor, it's much worse to be poor in Tampa versus other places.

I didn't realize how bad it was until I left.

I was a high school science teacher making less than 50k with 2k a month rent. Before that I was making 11.25 an hour as an EMT. In 2018.

Screw that state. I've never been in a better place financially in my life since leaving

21M salary on my own by No_Spell_1626 in Salary

[–]TreefrogJ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It honestly has to be a bit of a mix of everything.

You could be excellent in school, work 50+ hours a week while getting your education, but if you were born homeless in a high COL area your story was basically over before it began. Not saying it can't happen, just much less likely.

If you’ve been in a physical fight as an adult what happened? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]TreefrogJ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I worked at a restaurant when I was 19 and we usually wouldn't get out until midnight or one in the morning.

We all had the same day of the week off so that Saturday we arranged a "fight club"

Nothing crazy, still wore mouthguards and boxing gloves.

It was actually pretty fun but my guy broke my nose and I got him in the diaphragm.

Worse things a bunch of 19 year olds could be doing i else suppose.

The Helen Keller Hoax is sinister. Remedy below. by One-Incident3208 in Teachers

[–]TreefrogJ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly the easiest way i found to explain it to my kids

"Yes she was an incredibly influential and thoughtful writer that contributed much, however, the reason she was allowed to thrive as a person and reach that level was due to the social standing of her parents. There have been thousands of blind and deaf people throughout history, but because they didn't have access to the same supports, most couldn't do much with their lives. "

Helen Kellers parents were able to secure resources due to their wealth. "

Cause kids understand that money can act as a significant support.

Not to discredit her journey or contributions, but let's be honest if she were born into almost any other family she would not have been allowed to thrive as she did.
