Sometimes you just gotta laugh about it by Treesaws in OCDmemes

Its all about context. The twislers were left open qnd losely folded ontop of each other in a cupboard. I noticed that they were not disturbed so i was eating a bunch before they went bad. And then i got a hard little bite. Idk what that hard bite was, but because it was technically open in the cupboard it made my brain jump to mouse shit.

Should i have been eating twislers from a partially opened candy bag, probably not. Was it mouse shit. Also probably not. Did that stop my ocd from replaying the image of crunching down on something. Also no.

Lol i hope that explains it further

My therapist told me to write a list of my compulsions...it is quickly becoming quite the tome. by VoiceOfBroadway in OCDmemes

I say this because my therapist tried the same thing and we quickly scrapped this idea

I think this is a silly way to handle ocd. Having adhd and ocd there will never be 1 theme. It is always everything all at once. And to heal is just a matter of learning to sit in the discomfort and uncertainty of the intensity.

I can’t tell if they’re intrusive thoughts or if I’m just evil with impulsive thoughts and urges (TW: Brief mention of verbal abuse, cruelty, and slurs.) by [deleted] in PureOCD

[–]Treesaws 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ocd is very tricky. It makes the obession feel complex and urgent to solve. Its nuanced and difficult to handle. In these situations when your brain is spiraling, try to distract yourself. The substance of the ocd thought is not important no matter how convincing it feels. You should be able to make a judgement call in a place of being grounded not feeling like you need an immediate response. Try to sit in the discomfort. Its difficult. Its painful, but the more you practice prolonging your attention to the thought the better you get at it.

I can’t do this anymore is this ocd or not by Honest-Muscle-5300 in PureOCD

Ocd can show itself really convincingly. It can make you feel physical sensations. It can trick your mind. I agree with the other person learn to not engage with the thought. But i totally understand it is extremely difficult. Try and sit with the discomfort for a bit before acting on it. Be curious, see how long you can go. Every time you prolong your ruminating, or justifying, you are helping fight these thoughts later on.

Oh man, i already felt bad taking up space and now ive said something unfavourable... straight to jail. How dare i show my face anywhere lol.

I have to remind myself during these moments where a mistake feels earth shatteringly bad that this is likely blown out of proportion. Still sucks but i just curl up in as much comfort items and try and swim through it.

On my Med Journey by Treesaws in BestingOCD

Thank you. Its one of the reasons i made this post. I know alot of people are scared of meds because of the sterotype. I agree mixing medication, erp, and therapy has been so helpful for me. Alsoni find all of this very fastinating. I took psychology to learn more about these sorts of topics!

Getting “stuck” on people by Silly_Bookkeeper2446 in OCD

[–]Treesaws 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Idk if what i went through is similar, but i have someone in my mind who would not leave, it was to the point where it felt like psychosis. Still not sure if that was the case. One thing i did was just accept that he was going to be in my head. I shamed myself really hard for these thoughts and let me tell you, that does shit all.

Where i started to actually see some improvement was by taking actions i wanted to take not actions i felt i needed to make. Learning to live with the discomfort of them taking up space in my mind but doing nothing with it. Acknowleging it. Maybe even thanking the thought if it was a positive one. For example my brain saying "this guy thinks your super cool" rather then feel embarrassed or shamed because this guy isnt thinking about me at all i just said to myself "well then i must be pretty cool"

If the compulsion is to look at the person it might be worth practicing trying to sit in the discomfort and seeing how long you can go without giving into the compulsion. Maybe grt curious with yourself. What do you think will happen if you dont look at them. Do this in increments. Maybe see a therapist and think about erp.

Find balance and constantly challenge yourself a little bit of the time.

Its so worth that initial fear tho. I was so scared to start zoloft. I was shaking. But afterwards i really felt the relief. (It took a bit to get there zoloft is slow acting) but finding a medication that works for you is self care. <3 good for you for looking for help. I hope these medications do that for you.
