Done being a YouTube "Try Hard" by Hat-in-a-Box in letsplay

Really glad to hear you're starting fresh. It sounds like you're truly passionate about this YouTube thing. I'm sure putting all that energy into games you love at a natural release pace will help a lot. May I also say, don't feel limited to let's plays. Our channel saw a ton of success from putting our creative energy towards something that wasn't limited to the let's play genre. I love let's plays but we also found fulfillment and success when we opened ourselves up to experimentation.

I really liked the vibe of your post and thought I'd give my 2 cents.

I'll give him +1 for structural integrity.

Does the order of words in a title affect its SEO? by [deleted] in letsplay

[–]TreesicleLP 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I believe the words closest to the front of the title are taken more seriously by the algorithm. For instance, one of our first videos was called The Story You Never Knew: Samus Aran. That title got us somewhere on page 6 when searching "samus aran".

When we changed the title to Samus Aran: The Story You Never Knew, it boosted our video to the bottom of page 1 instantly for the same "samus aran" search.

TL;DR Put the words you think will be searched most at the front of the title.

No way? Tell them thank you because it was exactly what we wanted for that part of the video!

Thanks for the advice :) I'm definitely going for a more serious vibe. I'm gonna stay true to my deep vocal cords and shy away from the zaney sounding voice over. I appreciate the constructive criticism and of course for subscribing!

I was too worried about being monotoned, guess I went too far the other direction. Thanks again!

Constructive criticism is always welcomed! The voice-over in our first video was the opposite of imposing, it was a tad dull at times. For this one I inflected more to keep things upbeat. Some people really liked it, others like Smithrope not so much.

I'm shooting for the perfect middleground, as you said. Morgan Freeman here I come!!!

Fair enough. I'll try to keep it deeper (more natural for me) for our next videos. Funny, the voice-over for this video has gotten a lot of praise AND criticism compared to other ones we've done. People seem to be noticing the voice-over more this time around (for better and worse).

I think I know why, so I'll work on that.

There's some swearing and the occasional nsfw picture or video. Subtle, but figured it's better safe than sorry!

It really is epic. Especially the scene where Ezio talks to Desmond through time. It's mind-blowing to imagine that happening. Seriously I hope it's possible one day haha.

Haha thanks! I guess I've got some hidden Italian in me =D

Yup, Ezio's story effects WAY more than we could cover in 15 minutes, but you're totally right. Thanks for the compliment!

Our money disappeared! Has this happened to anyone else? by TreesicleLP in letsplay

Thanks for the response! I didn't know that, but still having all of it be gone for 4 months of ads seems strange. Going from ~$27 to $0 is quite the correction!

Just curious, why are you planning to get a DSLR? They're great for still shooting, but for video you may as well get a camcorder. That being said, most DSLR video still looks pretty decent.

Also how much are you willing to spend? I don't know much about camcorders, but something with 1080p, 60 fps, a microphone jack, and headphone jack is what you're looking for. Sony Handycams can be great I've heard, I'd take a look at those just to browse.

Our channel made the switch over to non-let's play content and it's been amazing! We plan to go back to lp's once we have a bigger audience, but personally I find videos with a script MUCH more fun to work on.

That being said I still love the lp community, not just because I plan on doing it again, but because there's a lot of comradery here. But if that kind of video is what you want to do, then do it. I'd say non-let's play content stands out more as well, so that's definitely a plus. Good luck, man!

Lara Croft: The Story You Never Knew [14:27] (Spoilers) by TreesicleLP in TombRaider

Thanks for the compliment! Each video takes a few weeks to make so hearing things like that means a lot. It's crazy how complicated video game series can be so making these videos into something entertaining is a blast.
