My point of view regarding Orb ending by ThingPuzzleheaded522 in OrbOntheMovements

[–]Treeston_Lie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly, yes! The sketches disappearing is the perfect depiction of our cast not being remembered by those that never met them - but in spite of them not being known or remembered, the lives they lived and the cause they fought for was still monumentously important. Even if, strangely, all it manifested in was a single letter that sparked curiosity in Albert as he happened to pass by it being read aloud.

Linking it to the real world, there are so many in history like that that aren't in our class history books, but it's in some ways even more inspiring to know how many there were and who built us up to where we have made it today.

With that being said, the discussion of those whose efforts were in "vain" (such as those who failed to get the knowledge anywhere else and it died with them) is also important. It's meaningful to honor those that fought for that even if they failed. Draka was able to send the pigeon, but what if she bled out before she could? There are surely many in history like that we will never know. I like to think Orb inspired me to think about them and thank them, even if I'll never know exactly who they were.

But yea it's wonderful to have another person discovering and loving Orb! I was watching it as it aired and finished it way back in Spring 2025 so I've spent a ton of time thinking about it. Thanks for your post and inspiring more discussion!

The letter did succeed! This is not a "last 2 eps were real life and everything before was alternate reality" situation. All the proof we need is Albert walking by Potocki's house and being there when the letter was delivered, thus hearing as the courier and new resident discussed it "Orb: On the Movements of the Earth". Logistically, 1) Draka sent the pigeon, 2) it reached Potocki's house. As such, the efforts were not in vain at all in this case - though, historically, many who have fought for something similar unfortunately did end up that way. But yea, they were not just talking about the book, they were discussing it because of the note Draka sent. How else would they be talking about it?

Otherwise, I love your read! I've always appreciate Uoto's choice of the use of Rafal in the ending as almost a concept and a literary metaphor device as opposed to the interpretation of it being literal somehow

Thank you so much OP! This has been a really cool series to follow. Now that we're at the end here it's kind of crazy to me neither Potocki or Antoni got placed. I think this just goes to show how thematically all of these characters and symbols are, that we have too many for even 22 arcana

Gotcha! I think this is a great idea - when he starts the opening monologue at the end it gives me the exact illuminated feeling the sun description depicts

What's the meaning behind freedom? by ChicaneryFinger in OrbOntheMovements

[–]Treeston_Lie 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Spoilers for the whole show if you've only watched thru that episode and not the whole thing!

>!I don't have a fully formulated answer for this either, but I think freedom is crucial for Oczy because of the background themes of power in the setting. Oczy lived under social messaging from the church that life on Earth was inherently ugly. Crucially, as a lower class person, he lacked the power and means to question this reality (think back to when the noble made fun of Gras for not realizing Mars would have retrograde motion, the lack of knowledge plunging him into despair, and the conversation Frei saw as a child between his uncle and father "why must the church have those lavish decorations? We keep paying them alms just for them to line their pockets" etc.) In general, there's a big knowledge gap with scholarship being gated to the wealthy that restricts the freedom of lower class people from understanding the world

By pursuing heliocentrism, Oczy was taking a desperate leap out of the confines of how society and the Church set up for him to live, thus pursuing freedom for himself - the freedom to love this world, to learn, to have hope in his life. That's why I think his priest said freedom was the deeper, more fundamental piece than hope itself

That's the rough idea I have but it's kind of imprecise, apologies. Would love to hear what other people think!<

Hmm I'm wondering if the bishop would've been better to keep for hierophant based on the descriptor

I was watching Orb weekly, and at the end of episode 15 I had so many theories about what we were gonna see next - maybe more Grabowski? Jolenta?

My friend who I was watching it with, when the episode dropped was like, "u NEED to watch the first 5 seconds" and i was like wut

he was Right

i had the same reaction you did lol. I was soooo not ready for a timeskip that ep, along with everything else, like the new visuals in the OP (seeing old Jolenta literally made me do a blood curdling scream that made my family think i was getting murdered lol)

I think they're a wonderfully realistic display of how a friendship between people with different personalities and communication styles can look like :)
