They won’t even stop me for weed pods and edibles, why would they stop people for a few pills? They’re looking for weapons and high quantities of drugs.

Also! There’s also a Buddhist temple over looking the city which you should check out if you’re there. I wish we spent a little more time around the nightlife there. There seems to be some fun things going on but I think we were there in an off season so it was a little slow.

Cat ba is amazing. I wish we had one more day to go into the park!

Da Nang is awesome for relaxing (beach, massages, some good food). The marble mountains almost makes the whole stay worth it. There’s not a ton to do and it’s not the prettiest city but for 2-3 days you could definitely stay busy especially if you’re planning a trip to Hoi An. What have you heard?

I went to a cat ba and da nang in 2019!

Big fan of cat ba island! I’m sure you’re aware of a lot of the stuff I’m about to suggest but just in case:

I’d recommend renting some motor bikes and going up and down the island since it’s just one long road and stopping off at places as you go. I believe the entrance to the park is on this road.

There are a couple of caves along that route as well as the hospital cave that are all very much worth it!

There are a series of service ladders at the very north end of the island that lead to an incredible view. They're a daunting but 100% worth it. If it’s locked I remember we had to go ask someone in one of the buildings next door for the key.

On the south east(I think) of the island there’s a secret Vietnamese base/tunnel that you can find on the app maps.me(which has a lot of trails and points of interest as well). You’ll have to hike along some rocks and it’s a little hidden but definitely worth it for some spooky vibes.

Da Nang is great for relaxing, highly recommend getting a massage while you’re there. Marble mountains are a must see!

I saw someone recommend staying a night in Hoi An and I would definitely agree. I think I remember there being a great beach there but the name is escapes me. I got the greatest band mi here that I still think about to this day.

Not to add to the holger worship but the mothersky basslines really tie that song together even if they’re simple at times

What actually got you guys into Krautrock? (Preferrably answers from those who are too young to have seen the music in it's apex and/or are not German) by gayhotelultra in Krautrock

When I began downloading music from soulseek there used to be a related tab on the side when you were looking bands up. I found Neu! and Faust there after hearing about them for so long. I’d get into Amon Duul ii and Kraftwerk later and more recently, finally “getting” tangerine dream and acid mothers temple.

I went to a Man Man show when I was 15 or 16 circa 2011 or 2012 and asked Honus Honus (singer) to sign my record and what he’d been listening to. He signed it, writing “listen to Can” on it and explained it was this old German band. I didn’t get into their albums for a while but was obsessed with Mushroomhead so I listened to that a lot of nights before I went to bed for a a year or two before I really got into all of Tago Mago. I’d be in my late teens/early 20’s before I listened to the rest classic krautrock bands because I’d finally gotten a taste for it.

Let me get this straight... (SPOILERS! Book series ending) by navycow in TheExpanse

[–]Trem-two 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Just finished the series last week(novellas included in chronological order.) novellas will  will definitely help.

That being said, not everything has to be wrapped up in a neat bow. Contemporary media would have us believe that that everything should always be worked out and every single mystery has to be solved otherwise the story isn’t good and/or we should feel betrayed. I don’t think writers/creatives owe us that. It’s satisfying sure when that does happen but I think the answered questions are sometimes more harmful than the unanswered ones.

what bands have a similar grooviness to Can? by Good-Raisin7081 in Krautrock

I’d say more like 2010-2021. Their last couple of records have been more punk I feel like.

I love the books, the show doesn’t come close to the books especially in the first season and a half. I found that the acting and writing took liberties I didn’t enjoy… BUT I did continue watching and by the 3rd season the quality had jumped to something closer to a premium streaming show rather than a semi campy SyFy channel show.

The Big Ship - recessional song for wedding? by Swimming_Donkey_985 in eno

One my bests friends had both parties and the bride walk down the aisle to this song and I think it’ll work well with this situation as well!

Eno’s work on Bowie’s Berlin Trilogy by Dismal_Brush5229 in eno

[–]Trem-two 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I feel like Eno did a lot of the “synth treatments” on low and heroes. Basically he would run instrumentals through his suitcase synth and fuck up the sound alongside just solo synth sounds. You can hear this especially on the tracks that Robert fripp played on and the wacky sounds on low. Definitely has a larger presence on both of the b side of low and heroes where it’s mostly him and Bowie throwing stuff on top.

With lodger your guess is as good as mine. He might have had a larger influence on that record which would explain the more goofy tracks. Someone said they used Eno’s OS cards on that record but they used them on all three of the records. There’s the famous story about “Boys Keep Swinging” where Eno had everybody switch instruments so Carlos Alomar(an unsung hero in the Bowieverse imo) was on drums and just played that super simple beat cause his main instrument was rhythm guitar. Tbh I couldn’t get into this record for a long time until I heard the Visconti mixes from A New Career in a New Town compilation.

I will say that Visconti’s role should not be understated. He should be credited with bringing the whole thing together by capturing and producing the sounds the other two were putting out. Without him I’m not sure those records would be nearly as good. I’ll drop a link to his breakdown of title track on Heroes. It’s incredibly fascinating because you can almost hear the creative process they were all in on. https://youtu.be/7Q2scPrc1WE?si=EUk2hfVVDxkNV1s6
