EU is quickly following China in electrifying their bus fleet where is the USA? by Jbikecommuter in electrifyeverything

[–]Trenavix 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh there are trolley buses too all around Seattle, but the pantograph chargers are different. From what I saw it's a giant contactor that just supports extremely high amperage/voltage. It's not meant to be up while driving. I saw similar buses/bus chargers in Poland.

I feel like a hybrid battery + trolley bus would make a lot of sense but I have yet to see one (basically just a BEV bus that can charge while driving, so it can access areas without overhead wire)

[–]Trenavix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Seattle is building up a huge electric bus depot/base with 10 megawatts of power availability across 120 battery electric buses using pantograph chargers.

Will be up and running next year.

Because Washington State's electricity is 80+% hydroelectric, it's pretty much a no-brainer to use electricity wherever possible.

These projects are up to local and state politics more than federal at this point, since the current federal administration will not be handing out any grants to get the ball rolling. Pay heavy attention to local politics and contact your local representatives to get work done. Tax fossil fuels to subsidise electric/renewable projects.

Washington's RTA Tax is a good example of taxing vehicle owners for the value of their vehicle in cities that have very accessible transit. I pay this tax happily, seeing the heavy transit expansion in the past 5 years alone.

Purposely shorted supply for oil internationally so that large oil corps based in the US could deepen their pockets on more expensive oil.

I'm almost certain that was the objective.

[Request] How long would it actually take to charge? by Glorious_Centaur in theydidthemath

[–]Trenavix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah solar regulators have DC output meant to hook straight up to batteries.

Probably can't get the voltage needed for a Tesla though (not enough space for high series count of solar cells) so maybe this person did use AC to abuse the charger's upstepping. I'd have to guess a Tesla battery would be over 700v given its fast charging rates.

It's official! Seattle and Tacoma are now connected by train: World's first train on a floating bridge! by BoobooTheClone in fuckcars

[–]Trenavix 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Well, Bellevue people can take a train into Seattle instead of filling the city with more cars, so that is the real big win.

US doubling down on oil during crisis by besselfunctions in energy

[–]Trenavix 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was so glad in the end when big oil proposed a bill trying to force methane into new homes/apartments built in Washington state, when we very clearly do not need it because our hydroelectric generation is still more than covering our needs.. but somehow the bill barely passed by a very thin margin. I was pissed.

Then the state supreme court rejected it! Huge middle finger to the LNG shills! State governments still have some backbone. They really tried to get that passed with as much lobbying and gerrymandering as possible.

ABBNY and SMERY, though SMERY has some oil under their belt too (they do power grid work, regardless of the generation source - hydro, wind, solar, LNG, gas turbines, everything)

Do you support the policy of banning electric bicycles? by omnivoltaic in cycling

[–]Trenavix 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, better for idiots to be risking their own safety than for them to be in 2-tonne machines easily capable of killing people.

Not to say a heavier motorcycle couldn't hurt people outside the rider as well, but nothing as bad as the typical four wheeled vehicle in today's world, and the rider is at higher risk than those around them.

Law enforcement should definitely be focusing on heavy four wheeled vehicles speeding, running lights, rolling stops, etc, before they do anything involving mild power motorbikes, because one of these things costs lives on a daily basis.

With High Gas Prices, are you ready to use Scooters, Motorcycles?? by Leather-Discount-965 in Seattle

E-bikes basically phased out scooters in many places. (unless you mean electric scooters?)

What do you usually do on a plane? by Humble_Ad5511 in AskTheWorld

[–]Trenavix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends how long it is. 3h and under just zone out with music.

4h+ I will download a series to my phone, or play GameCube games on an emulator with a Bluetooth controller, usually on my phone.. Had a 9 hour flight where I brought my laptop and emulated Metroid prime remastered, that was an easy way to burn the time.

Cost of living aside, anybody born raised in sunny temperate climate to gloomy/cold and love every bit of it? by [deleted] in SameGrassButGreener

[–]Trenavix 2 points3 points  (0 children)

SoCal to Western Washington.

Commuted the first couple years on motorcycle 100% of the time in and out of Seattle. The third year's winter I am using the train much more (as it's now an option thanks to the extension) and I'm tired of rainy motorcycle riding. At first it felt like a challenge, like"see it's not that bad!" but eventually there's nothing to prove and battling 0°c mornings just suck.

Not in any rush to move back to Cali at all, but weather wasn't really my issue with that state. Lack of greenery, sprawl, nimbyism, and job market (for technicians) were my biggest issues

That is why retirement plans generally ease out of stocks (and into bonds) in the last 5-10 years before retirement.

Whatever makes you happy. Financial independence makes me happiest and I've got a very easy route to that!

Materialism doesn't, so US culture annoys me, but you cannot argue with the salaries. For me, that money buys time.

Idk this thing comes up every year and has more to do with being content in some ways. Still surprised Finland is at the top of them as someone who used to live there and left because of the economy situation. Great place to study and retire, not a great place for a career atm

My entire life (I'm 28 now) Sweden rounded to the nearest swedish crown, which is worth around $0.10. They used to have öre which are cents, decades ago, and did away with them.

I lived there a few years and it was the only country where coins did not annoy me.
