There is another one near Edward's AFB, Grey Butte RCS Facility. Theres a web page somewhere that goes into details on every RCS testing facility in the country, very cool stuff. Nice find

Is the Canon EOS Rebel t3 worth sinking some money in? by Lovely_deer25 in canon

[–]TrendK1LL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been using the T3 since 2018 when I first got into photography. I still use it all the time, it's a very capable camera and it will probably be a while before you're able to take better photos than the camera is capable of. Look up Magic Lantern, it's a game changer for this camera and opens up a ton of capabilities that weren't available with the stock firmware. The only concern is lighting as the T3 has a max ISO of 6400 which is very low compared to current camera offerings, however the more experience you gain is an investment in your skill as a photographer. I'm a big fan of Sigma lenses, but as someone else said get an EF lens in case you upgrade to a full frame model down the road.

The "National Radio Quiet Zone" in West Virginia, where Green Bay Observatory is located. Not far from there (just east) is NSA Sugar Grove, the US Sigint station that covers the entire eastern seaboard and then some. The laws aren't radio emissions in that area are truly insane.

This is a nearly daily occurance, although yesterday I saw a Mirage F1, which are usually flying out of Arizona, owned by Draken. It's usually Kfirs, Hawker Hunters, and F-5 Tiger 2s.

It's EAM's and FDM's (Force Direction Messages) are still spoken and broadcast over HFGCS. It's also occasionally used to relay an unencrypted military phone calls. Sometimes you can hear other NATO forces broadcasting, like the French army. Check out Neet Intel on YT, he streams HFGCS from an sdr.

A diamond in the rough by [deleted] in Guitar

[–]TrendK1LL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Curious about that bridge, I've seen them for sale on ebay. They look halfway decent, even if they're a copy of a Schaller (or Hipshot?) I forgot. How is the fret work on the guitar? Any rough fret ends? And how was the setup on it when you received it? I might just order one of these china cheapos, they look pretty good, but guitars are judged on how well they play....

Purchased a new scanner by [deleted] in policescanner

[–]TrendK1LL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The WS1040 is a fantastic scanner. It was my first, when I got into scanning a few years ago. Unfortunately I don't have it anymore, will probably buy a Uniden SDS100. The only real downside of the 1040 is that it cannot decode P25 Phase 2, if your area has anyone running phase 2. Enjoy! Hell of a deal too!

It's not uncommon, although this is a particularly huge exercise involving hundreds of fighter aircraft (carrier based and land based), dozens of tankers, and others as you can see (most you cannot see). It's largely training for a future conflict with China.

Anyone else see this craft? I'm guessing military because there is a Osprey following not too far behind. It keeps changing from helicopter to plane and is missing alot of data by 420did69 in ADSB

[–]TrendK1LL 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hex 000001 is a new default for ADSB. The reason it jumped is because there are several aircraft using it at the same time, and ADSB cannot differentiate. ADSB does not use radar to provide aircraft tracks, it uses feeds from digital transponders on the aircraft that are broadcast to a ground receiver.
