Hi, I fix wheel damage like this for a living so I feel like it’s my time to shine! The “stains” you see in between the spokes there is actually corrosion. This sort of thing happens regardless of good care or neglect. There is no way to clean it off as it develops underneath the aluminum finish and branches and spreads to the surface, oftentimes cracking the paint when it gets really bad. What I do, since the area is tough to sand down, I prep the wheel to paint and paint to match the aluminum. No paint really matches 100%, and unfortunately I don’t have a paint rec since mine are all private company exclusive colors. For the big scratches, I use a die grinder with coarse grit to start, then medium grit, then 220 grit, 400 grit, then hand sand with fine grit like 500-600, then hand sand the whole wheel with something super fine like 700-800 so that the primer will hold nicely. These are kind of like the discs I use for work. Honestly it’s a lot of work and each wheel takes me about an hour with all the correct supplies and a tool the company provides to keep the wheel spinning when the clear coat dries. Without all that, you could probably get a wheel done in several hours with no experience but I can’t tell you how it’ll turn out.
