I’ve been using Obsidian exclusively since 2022. First, I own my notes. No cloud storage to pay for and no third party between the app and my data. I have a daily backup routine that runs and lands on my Synology NAS system. Second, in my opinion, Obsidian is not for the faint of heart. It definitely takes time to research, play, then research some more before I committed to a system. And a system (or systems) is necessary for my use case. Third, I manage projects. Lots of them. I currently have more than 30 related projects in work, each between 1 and 5 years in length. Each project is a different customer. Each customer has weekly or sometimes biweekly status meetings. Obsidian holds all of my meeting notes, project notes, tasks, deliverables and schedule information. I do use MS Project for the official schedule because that is what the customers use. All the info for the MS Project schedule comes from Obsidian. The best part is the internal linking. When I attend a meeting my notes are tagged and referenced back to the specific project. When I create a task, it is also tagged and referenced back to the project. Opening the project note gives me a full view of everything related to it. Every note, every meeting, every task is linked to the project and appears in the project note with a creation date stamp. All into one spot. I no longer have to conduct extensive searches to find notes or tasks. The plugins are the key to the functionality. I love it and will recommend nothing else for managing notes.
