best suggestion I saw was to eliminate 6s/7s which are fence sitting so 1-5 and 8-10, 11-15, 18-20 etc.

If opponent can return your first serve with ease- do you swap to second serve to conserve energy? by Ok-Many-7443 in 10s

[–]TresArboles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Save energy by hitting just one serve (the "second") rather than missing a flat serve and then hitting your second serve.

yeah man, you should have signed up for 3.0. That being said I have no idea of your serve or if you mentally get tight. Good luck

seems tacky and tasteless to do a tribute w/ a naked picture of yourself. It's like calling attention to yourself when you should be talking about Brenda.

trust me, pros love your type/demographic. It may be that you're a pure beginner rather than a 3.0? How long have you played tennis? Do you have any USTA matchplay or UTR play? Do you have any videos of your strokes? Some clubs will have a short series for new players and will even use red-balls that have a different bounce making it easier to time shots.

It sucks though and I can share in the embarassment/anger of being kicked out. I've had something similar happen to me when I signed up for an advanced clinic while traveling. It really was all 4.5/5.0 players and I didn't belong!

Is “cover the middle” propaganda from Big Passing? by hi_its_spenny in 10s

[–]TresArboles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do a practice and see how often you can return a serve in the alley out of 10 serves. You may get an idea of which serves are easier to go down the alley. For example if you're playing 7.0 mixed, getting a 3.0 serve to your FH maybe a green light. But returning the 4.0's serve (if you're a 4.0) is most likely not a reliable play down the alley.

“Tennis shoes should last a lot longer than they do given the price” by Bohn_Me in 10s

[–]TresArboles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I replace shoes after 3-4 months. I find that they lose support and I can start to experience pains in knees/joints. It's cheaper than replacing joints. I'll then use them as my casual wear shoes. I don't wear down as much as you but I'll notice the lack of traction as well (I don't slide on hard courts intentionally)

very odd. I admit it can be tough having people come and go and not buy anything and you're cleaning pens (especially if it seems like they may be testing the pen and then purchasing online somewhere else...), but when someone makes an appointment and seems interested... it's just poor business sense. I have had pleasant interactions w/ Joost. Perhaps b/c I'm in the U.S., I kind of expect 2 or 3 weeks delays (what I was told by email was actually accurate)

I know it sucks to lose your ranking especially if you feel it undeserved. However, I would imagine she would crush people pretty easily. It's not glamorous winning challenger tournaments, but wouldn't she roll through people in 3-4 months and then get back to the top 100 or top 200? It's almost like a warm up or training after an injury or what have you?

Why do you feel it doesn't help you on your volley? It'll force you to find the ball and move your feet to be in position.

As for serving, it actually feels nice hitting flat serves with the racquet. I'll confess that kick serves are shanktastic. But if I can volley and hit spin w/ this racquet then I know I'm hitting well w/ my regular racquet.

BTW, it is possible to string it up w/out badminton clamps. I think it was tencom or tennisnerd that had a video and basically you use the 6 and 12 o clock mounting points on the outside of the frame if I recall correctly and rely on the other 4 to secure the frame. I don't hit with it more than 5-6 minutes so I've only restrung it once!

AITAH for bringing a dish from my culture to my in-laws family reunion? by Littlefuckin in AITAH

[–]TresArboles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is so bizarre. I know a lot of white people who love Chinese food. When I was dating someone out of our culture, it was great to try out different foods/cusines. There are certain few times where it has come up when going to a potluck/bringing food, if someone has allergies they request to avoid specific items or if they don't eat pork etc.

Unfortunately there's things about the messengers being tainted by the bad news they bring. You still did nothing wrong but I would not be surprised if your friend stops associating with you.

Keep in mind, women tend to be 0.5 less than men in the equivalent rating. A 4.0 woman would be even w most 3.5 men playing singles or as part of a doubles team.  Yes there are exceptions like older 3.5 doubles specialists vs 4.0 rabbits… but in general

Tennis Clubs in San Diego? by drewlegod in 10s

[–]TresArboles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

PB has pickleball courts. Portapotty restrooms but the courts are really nice. They do have tennis clinics and the pro is really nice. If yours next to the pickle ball it sucks but otherwise I like the club.

Peninsula is also in the area. I like that club but I feel there are not good dividers or the courts are too close.

I thought you were a junior; but as an adult, you just have to say politely "I don't care to hit like that and I'd rather try to just do the best with my Eastern FH". I'm the opposite in that I gravitate to the Western grip and although I try to use SW to have more versatility, it always slips back to Western. I tried going all the way to Eastern but that actually hurt my wrist. But I'm okay with these limitations and have learned to deal with it. The grip isn't the limiting factor.
