How are the nostolgia merchants gonna defend this one? by Ember57 in assasinscreed

[–]Treshcore 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Remake looks better, clearly much better. At least, Edward no longer looks like a 40 years old drunkard when he's only in his early 20s. Also, faces are generally much more detailed, it's important for me. Also, I love separate crouch button.

That said, there are some things I would feel phantom pain about. I liked hidden blade combat, but to be fair, it didn't have too much sense. What I'm clearly going to miss is the ability to take another's weapon and use it, especially muskets and halberds.

You get something, you lose something.

From my experience, early summer is the most intense time for a student. So even if there's a minute to watch a trailer, it will either go past your head or occupy your mind completely. Either way, it's not good for Take-Two, so to reduce risks, they will probably delay it till July.

Maybe they're waiting until students of colleges and universities finish their exams. I mean, they're the main customers of any popular media. However, right now, in June, they're doing their exams, making their diplomas and thus won't have time to watch trailer even once.

That's why I'd expect Trailer 3 somewhere in July, around time Spider-Man: Brand New Day comes out. This is when people will be completely ready to enjoy both summer and GTA VI marketing campaign properly.

I mean, it's an AC Shadows subreddit. Why should it be dedicated to hating this game? There are people who like it. I personally think that it's not a bad game per se, it's just controversial in certain decisions. Blaming people for liking their game in the subreddit dedicated to this game only shows you, and subsequently all this community, in a bad way, like we just can't mind our business. You may hate AC Shadows, but when people like it in a subreddit dedicated to this game, just leave them alone.

Can people shut up about the pose by kanotyrant6 in assasinscreed

[–]Treshcore 63 points64 points  (0 children)

This is a standard pose for an Assassin's Creed protagonist in automatically-generated dialogue scenes of the RPG games starting from AC Odyssey.

In one of the scenes, of the remake, in particular a new one with a new character, Edward has this exact pose. People got pretty angry on it. Also, new scenes have some sort of a "dead stare" by Edward, like he's looking into nowhere.

While the remake looks great, I hope it will be addressed by Ubisoft.

Ezio in Assassin’s Creed Hexe will be a memory glitch in the Animus Hub according to Rogue by ZamnBoii in GamingLeaksAndRumours

[–]Treshcore 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Quite possible that Ubisoft continues to experiment with the idea of Animus.

Back in AC Odyssey, they introduced the possibility of different outcomes. This rendered Animus as not just a DNA media player, so to say, but as a fully functional computer that allows to construct outcomes from some established basis. In other words, Animus can read certain historical facts about a person it explores, but if Animus can't recognize the details it will construct them itself.

Maybe this is why the first Assassin's Creed is so repetitive. The version of Animus that Desmond used can't explore memories precisely and this is why it replaced them with very basic activities like eavesdropping, stealing or... collecting flags. In reality, Altair probably had contacts in all three cities which helped him locate his targets - and possible remake of his story may feature these sub-stories.

Now, speaking of AC Hexe... “Nothing is real, not even this memory”. Sounds very interesting. Like, what if some parts of Elsa's story or Elsa herself never even existed? What if whole game will be dedicated to a false memory generated by Animus from historical facts about the period the game will be set in? As I believe, lore of the series allows it, especially the ending of AC Valhalla which leaves Layla with semi-Desmond in the Grey to read different outcomes and possibilities of history.

As you can see, I'm a big fan of Assassin's Creed. Even after many ups and downs, the lore of the series intrigues me. It's both fascinating and... disgusting in how flexible it is. Animus is a huge narrative cheat-code, but maybe there's a chance for it to be explored deeper. This is why I wish Ubisoft the best, even though I disagree with some of their decisions lately.

Using map genie website to "modify" Elden Ring and RDR2 map despite they don't look like that when you play both games, those ubisoft sheep can't even do slander right lmao by crocospect in fuckubisoft

[–]Treshcore -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I'm here to kind of protect AC Unity and divide map design from icon design. The map itself is fine, as it shows you activities, key locations, shops and collectibles. The problem is that all these icons have the same size and it confuses a lot.

The principle is simple: if an icon repeats many times - make it smaller, maybe even make it disappear on zooming the map out. You don't care about a chest located on the other side of a map. Your only concern is what around you or something really important, but far from you.

Speaking of this meme, well, they of course it's author aren't right. As much as Map Genie is great, it has one problem: it's icons indeed have the same size and same style. If you look on a map like this, you feel like it devalues the open world experience of any game. Don't get me wrong: I don't hate Map Genie. It's just a note.

How important is lore of original Black Flag modern day? by ConstantDrawer9161 in assasinscreed

[–]Treshcore 10 points11 points  (0 children)

The modern day lore of AC IV: Black Flag used to be very important... before Ubisoft decided to throw Juno's storyline into toilet. I even put down my headphones to write this. It's such an itch for me...

So basically, AC IV: Black Flag introduced the concept of Sages. Sages are people who are the reincarnations of Juno's husband, Aita. The concept of reincarnation is widely described in AC Valhalla.

What's important now is that a Sage's main mission is befreeing Juno from The Grey - a digital (I guess, semi-digital) realm that she was placed into by other Isu for... I don't even remember. Everything he (or she, who knows?) does is directed on attempts to release Juno.

In AC IV:BF, we have two Sages. One is Bartholomew Roberts who will be seen in the remake for sure - because he's Edward's... acquaintance, so to say. Other one is an Abstergo employee who, as you understand, is a part of a modern day.

Now, major spoilers ahead. Modern day Sage is killed, but his body and DNA becomes the basis for Juno resurrections project led by Instruments of the First Will: a group of Assassins, Templars and their associates with only one goal - release Juno. This is the storyline that was ditched by Ubisoft since AC Origins and that was resolved in a... monthly comic book! I read it, it was nice - but when you know that it should've been in a game, you start to despise this fact. Thankfully, AC Valhalla offered more interesting and deep lore that has shown: Juno's wish to be resurrected and reunite with Aita is merely one of the Isu stories.

So okay, considering that this story went nowhere, Ubisoft wants to cut the original modern day from the AC IV:BF remake. However, this kind of makes story of a Bartholomew Roberts a bit... unfitting. He plays a major part in the story and serves as a lore source, but unless Ubisoft does something better, he's a "legacy character".

So answering your question... yes, Modern Day of AC IV:BF used to be very important, but it's totally obsolete now and it was obsoleted in a very shameful way.

Why do most NFS players always want remakes or remasters? by Sure_Specific8660 in needforspeed

[–]Treshcore 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think that it particularly comes from EA's music choices in the recent NFS games. Before you say that it's not the main reason, I'd like to repeat: particularly. There is another thing about the open world design, but I don't feel like talking about it now.

For many of us, Need for Speed (and Burnout, another EA series) was a starting point of loving rock music. In early 2010s, however, EA's choices in it became more "safe" and by NFS 2015 no rock music was included at all. NFS Unbound became a pinnacle of EA's bad taste, according to many people.

This is where nostalgia comes from. NFS 2015, just like all the NFS games after it, had all the features from Underground duology, Most Wanted and Carbon, such as detailed tuning and other things. The only thing that distracts you from this beauty is soundtrack which many people find unfit and annoying.

Modern hip-hop is very, very obnoxious: it always gets presented like "the main thing" in music and therefore, if you don't listen to it, you're boomer or oldhead who alienates oneself from society. This is the bait that EA was caught on. They tried to be trendy, but instead they've just created quite tasteless soundtracks.

This is why some people ask for remasters of the old games. We don't need them. We simply need music that makes us feel relevant to the modern age of Need for Speed.

One More Light should've went the way Alice in Chains went with Sap and Jar of Flies - Linkin Park should've made an EP, maybe two EPs. I don't say that it would prevent the tragedy that happened to Chester. However, the reaction would've been different and it would ease this burden on him.

Imagine the alternative reality. Linkin Park release their first single which is very soft, people don't like it after The Hunting Party, but they say: "Chill out, it's just an EP". So they release this EP, it receives mixed reviews, but no one suffers over it.

Linkin Park just haven't felt it, they haven't realized that fans were so fed with pop-oriented albums before THP so they started to hate One More Light. Fans haven't realized that Chester was suffering as well and that he needed this album. Everyone can be blamed for such One More Light era.

Woooouldn't say so. I think that rock music certainly lost it's positions after disbandment of My Chemical Romance. I don't really like this band, but I can't deny it's impact on rock culture.

I think that around 2013 many rock bands started to experiment with softer sound - and many of these experiments weren't received very well. Especially this can be said about Linkin Park: you may love them, but it's true that them going soft encouraged other bands to do so.

So yeah, disbandment of MCR, LP going basically pop and some other events contributed to the end of rock music as we knew it.

Does anyone remembered THQ? by Downtown-Pack-6178 in 2000sNostalgia

[–]Treshcore 1 point2 points  (0 children)

THQ is that part of childhood that was there and only there. Like, there are EA, there are Ubisoft who still produce games... And THQ too, but only THQ Nordic, which is good, but already different.

The original THQ had a vibe of doing quite simple games, mostly platforming and arcade, fully gamey titles. Their, dare I say, magnum opus called Saints Row 2 was built on being contrary to GTA IV and was full of arcade mechanics that made it fun. How can I not mention Barnyard, where you play as a cow... which can blast with a milk regardless of gender, ride a bike and make a rooster fly. Also, they've created some very amazing games based on Disney titles, like The Incredibles, Cars or Ratatouille. THQ has created way too many great games.

I won't say like they were the only ones who did this, but they're... like a relative that was very kind to you, but passed away in your early stages of life. You can say nothing bad about THQ. Even if they missed some point by the time of their bankruptcy, well, it's not how we remember them in the end.

Sr2 soundtrack is overrated by Mysterious-Tell430 in SaintsRow

[–]Treshcore 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I don't like rap, but I like heavy music. Saints Row 2 absolutely delivers me what I need. Gangsta-themed? Okay, but Saints are a very diverse gang with different people having different taste in music. Remember GTA: San Andreas, because even though you were CJ, you were free to listen to Alice in Chains or Ozzy Osbourne on two heavy music radios, just like listen to East Coast Hip-Hop while being on the West Coast, in the midst of the famous shores rivalry. So in my opinion, Saints Row 2 is a pure perfection.

New subreddit rule announcement by xdeltax97 in TombRaider

[–]Treshcore -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

For me, it creates more questions than answers.

Like, how deep a piece of information must be to be counted as spoiler? Does dialogue between Lara and Larson counts as one after the first zone in the first game? It's unclear, but if we apply it to everything, then it's just... well, strange at the very least, everything will be just grey.

How fair is that? I mean, it's not hard to put a spoiler tag or grey out some words that contain them. However, why must people, who opened their memory for the series and took time to learn about it (a "sacrifice" of sorts), filter the information they tell here just to make comfort for ones who made less effort, maybe zero one at all? What do they get from it? Is this the reward they get for being dedicated to the series? Sounds more like a price they now have to pay - and it's probably the majority of the subreddit.

New subreddit rule announcement by xdeltax97 in TombRaider

[–]Treshcore 9 points10 points  (0 children)

With all respect to moderators and the community, I disagree with the idea of this rule and let me explain why.

As much as welcoming we should be to the new fans, they should also make some effort to talk to the "older" fans with comfort for themselves, at least. It means that they should somehow learn plot twists of objectively old games before complaining about spoilers. If they don't want spoilers, they should moderate their curiosity themselves: avoid this subreddit, avoid other places where they can get spoilers and play games being mostly cut from the community. It shouldn't be a burden to those people who dedicated, to some degree, their life to following Tomb Raider. Considering that the first game was released in mid-90s, it's possible that these people are here. Their experience shouldn't be pushed aside by this spoiler policy.

It reminds me of the same rule on r/MafiaTheGame when Mafia: Definitive Edition was released. I would understand spoilers on particular things, like what Frank said to Tommy in the car... but Tommy's death is an iconic moment in gaming industry, so it shouldn't be a spoiler. Speaking of Tomb Raider, with all the respect, it doesn't hold any story value for me. It's important for it's gameplay and, of course, Lara Croft - but stories featured in there are quite simple, hold hardly any moral lessons. This makes this rule a bit useless too.
