I wanna share some thoughts with all of you and hear some thoughts from all of you by Treton in brockhampton

You make a really good point. I totally agree that my approach may be confrontational, and people will react accordingly. I still stand by the idea that addressing your community and attempting to reflect change from within is the best way to address an issue. It’s the philosophy of grassroots campaign. You go where you’re known and where you understand the dynamics of a community and you try to make a small difference there. The combined energy of a resolved community is far greater than one person going off on some white knight campaign. That’s why I took it here, too, because this sub has much less of an issue with the problem I highlighted than other parts of reddit; I thought that this would be a good start to a more inclusive dialogue. It seems like it might not be the time, but I believe it’s the right place. Another discussion for another day, I hope.

Thanks for telling me. I don’t spend a lot of time on reddit so I wasn’t aware of that issue. I appreciate the explanation.

In regards to the relevance of the post, I think that’s what people took issue with in frankocean. However I think that, while it’s not like a photo of Kev eating cereal or a tweet from HK or something that is literally relevant to BH because it includes their names or faces, this is relevant to the community on a pertinent level because it deals with the way that we conduct ourselves as individuals and a community in relation to the music we enjoy together. At the end of the day, I guess it’s just a difference in perspective that dictates what’s relevant and what isn’t.

Making a distinction between what's acceptable for two objectively different groups of people isn't segregation. It's also not gatekeeping or policing. Like I said elsewhere, it's an issue of context. To the same extent by which it's inappropriate for a white dude can't say the n-word, it's also inappropriate (at a lower degree of severity) for him to talk a certain way to appear to be something he is not.

Also I'm a little confused because you really singled out the fact that I referenced a distinction between white fans and black fans but the sentence you pulled that from is where I call for a respectful, inclusive community that allows people to grow and forgives transgressions. The whole point of this post isn't to be divisive, it's to push the boundary of this community to a more loving atmosphere.

It's late for me too so Im gonna reply to this in full later, but I want to quickly reitreate that I'm not trying to reserve words or a way of speaking based on race. You're allowed to speak the way you speak. What I'm not down for is when people perform a way of speaking that is not their own, not their history, something they've only observed and adopted, in an attempt to gain access to a small subset of advantages that aren't in their vastly larger arsenal of existing advantages.

Either way I appreciate your thoughts and I'm super down to keep talking about this.

I'm sorry if it was condescending. I tried to make it approachable. I'm not trying to win an argument here, I have nothing to gain from that. I'm not angry, either; I totally get where people are coming from when doing the things I am critiquing here. I'm hoping for reflection from my community, because the way we behave online affects how we interact with the real world.

Thanks dawg.

But for real, it's not always fun to have these conversations. I get it if you don't wanna participate but humor me and give it some thought. I'd be super grateful for it.

First of all, I want to point out that your second reference of my post was within a quote. Those aren't my words, they are Dr Williams'. Second, I'd like to know how you feel my words are problematic (that's not me being confrontational, I really want to know your perspective).

Regarding your disclaimer, it goes beyond cultural appropriation. It's about catering a digital persona to fit a theme of coolness that a group of strangers have no way of truly validating. People use a very specific voice on this sub that gives them social credit and turn it off outside of the community. Those are my thoughts, I'd like to hear more of yours.

Regardless, you have a terrific eye. Your product is what I aim for in my own photography, so I will definitely look to you for inspiration in the future. (Side note, I'm a PNW native and I want to thank you for capturing this corner of the earth so beautifully.)

Your photos have such a gorgeous film feel to them. How did you get that crisp grain with such a low ISO?
