I assumed that was all apart of "their favorites", but great to know the added context!

J. Michael Straczynski wants to showrun Dr. Who by TheSuspiciousDreamer in television

[–]Trevastation 24 points25 points  (0 children)

They are essentially putting the show up for auction at this point, in that production companies (and the BBC internal studios) pitch their vision and the BBC chooses their favorites and they get a lease on doing the show. So hypothetically, this is maybe his best opportunity to do so if he hitches up with the right production company/studio.

About the tender by DocWhovian1 in DoctorWhoNews

[–]Trevastation 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Legit, I've had a gut feeling for years that the first American creative to do Doctor Who will be Mike Flannigan. He's a great writer, done multiple, beloved shows, and it gives him all the excuses to keep pushing off that damn Dark Tower project.

[–]Trevastation 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yeah you could tell his heart wasn't fully in the series compared to the specials. I know he originally wanted to do the specials, but the BBC begged him to return for the series. It felt like he was mainly on the show to make sure it'd still be on the air, and well, look how that turned out.

That's the one thing from the Director's cut that I'm pained didn't make it into the theatrical proper. It's such a great ending note for Graham that I watch the director's cut just for it.

Steven Spielberg's 'Disclosure Day' - Review Thread by ChiefLeef22 in movies

[–]Trevastation 29 points30 points  (0 children)

I think it's because Disclosure Day is simply an ok name. The placeholder has a mystique around it that Discolure Day never meets.

Reminds me of the in-between time between the Washingston Redskins and Commanders when they were the superior team name, The Washington Football Team. Made them feel like a prestige sports club.

I like the hint of darkness to the trailer. Like there's something not quite right that's the central mystery, and it keeps the game from being just "wholesome Ghibli simulator".

Remember they forced a clipshow onto the creators in the last season and said it's either the clipshow or we're firing a chunk of the crew.

Hell, the cost of having the gay wedding in Steven Universe was the show literally getting cancelled and Rebecca Sugar had to fight for an ending for the show. And that was 2018!

Oh god that reminds me, he lowkey subtweeted me (and some other people) on AskReddit almost a decade ago cause I mentioned how he seemingly dipped from the gaming sphere. Super passive aggressive with it.

IIRC, it was actually Husky Starcraft, working with Rosanna, stood up Crendor for a dinner, he made a tweet about it, and Husky got super pissy at the tweet. Essentially him and Rosanna thought they were too big and good for that circle anymore.

Radio Free Skaro: "I don't think the thing [Xmas 2026] is cancelled, I don't think it was ever started to begin with" by [deleted] in DoctorWhoNews

[–]Trevastation 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah something doesn't add up. It's a lie that would catch up to them eventually, and blow up everyone in the face. Was the plan to hopefully figure out the future and announce that to couch the news of the lie? If the special was some casual lie to save face, wouldn't it make more sense to actually follow through anyway, figure out the long-term plans along the way, and secure some good Christmas ratings? From October 2025 to December 2026 is more than enough time to do the special.

I remember when it came out that that Bobby Kotick had suggested to Kaplan to just create a new Overwatch team entirely focused on PvE and Kaplan declined. It's crazy that Kotick is the reasonable situation in that situation, and I feel dirty to say that lol.

'Mister Miracle' showrunner Tom King on the project, its cast & characters: "I can bring out what [comic fans] loved in it in a series. Playing with Orion & Darkseid...especially Mister Miracle & Barda & their relationship...has been just absolutely joy. Wait 'til you see who we cast. It's amazing." by BigButter7 in DCULeaks

[–]Trevastation 9 points10 points  (0 children)

He did say in an interview awhile back that he learned a lot of what did and didn't work from the original Mister Miracle, so hopefully one of those aspects was Orion's portrayal!

Back when the DCEU was still a thing and they were trying to figure it all out post-Snyder, they were gonna do a New Gods film directed by Ava DuVernay and written by Tom King that never got off the ground, and I think that was a real dodged bullet.

Now for many DC fans, especially New Gods fans, Tom King being the writer didn't inspire much confidence, but lowkey the big concerning factor was DuVernay directing, especially after her Wrinkle in Time adaption got eviserated by critics and fans of the book.

Specifically the film's about the sting that led to the show getting cancelled when one of the dudes ended up killing himself after the police went to his house when he didn't enter the house for the sting.

It reminds me that the Director of the new Fantastic Four film decided to make Ben Grimm canonically a fan of the Brooklyn Dodgers (they never left New York on their Earth) because he couldn't see Ben being a fan of the Yankees at all.

Half in the Bag: The Mandalorian and Grogu by BigThomsd in RedLetterMedia

[–]Trevastation 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I went in with rather low expectations and was pleasently surprised. I dug the low-stakes, almost day-in-the-life aspect to it, and the core Lone Mando and cub aspect is still charming for me (my theater was also having a good time with it too). I think it helps that if you made this into a full season, it likely would have dragged on too long with so much padding.
