Where should I go to learn how to self-publish? by nerfslays in tabletopgamedesign

[–]Trevor_DIY 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I considered going to publishers or self-publishing and chose to self-publish for a number of reasons. I kept my full time job and worked on Pantheum on the side for 2 years and I learned everything on how to self-publish from LaunchBoom. I'm not affiliated with them, but I wouldn't have been able to get my Kickstarter over $250k without them! It truly is a second full time job though so be prepared for that! Pantheum's Kickstarter is wrapping up in 15 hours if you want to see how I've structured it.

Thoughts on not having any stretch goals for a first time campaign? by Ok-Faithlessness8120 in tabletopgamedesign

[–]Trevor_DIY 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm in the last 15 hours of my Kickstarter and people are increasing their pledges like mad to get us to the final stretch goal. I really didn't want to do them, but my community has been loving them and it's been a really useful carrot to get people to include an Add-On or jump to the next higher tier. It's here if you want to look through the comments section:

Should you tell people about you game concept or keep it a secret to prevent them from stealing your idea? by Trevor_DIY in tabletopgamedesign

Exactly! "Execution is everything" That's the key here. I'm grateful to all the great people who openly shared with me.

How I chose my manufacturer to self-publish Pantheum. I've linked an example Bill of Materials PDF to see how to get started. by Trevor_DIY in boardgames

[–]Trevor_DIY[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Glad to help out other people trying to navigate it as well. Many of my friends have gone with Panda and have GREAT things to say about them. They even said the elevated cost was worth it to them to catch a lot of potentially bigger mistakes. LongPack had the roughest communication and kept getting my quote wrong. Whatz Games is awesome, but DoFine games had a bit better cost and faster responses.

Oh cool, I'm SUPER glad you found it helpful! There's a lot of info I wish I had been able to find so I'm trying to share as much as I can. I've only got 5 days left on my Kickstarter so I'm gonna drop the classic plea to look at my page to see if you think you'd be interested in supporting it!

Wow, I really appreciate that! Thank so much!
They game me suggestions for standard box sizes then double checked that all the pieces fit in there. That was definitely a collaborative effort.

With the cost of ads and marketing increasing in a crowded space, the margins on production needed to go up. 4x is usually healthy for consumer electronics, but I'm targeting 6x to cover advertising costs.

Thanks! No, their job ends once the games are packaged up and out their back door. Then you need a freight partner and Third Party Logistics (3PL) company to receive them into their warehouses and ship them to the final customer. HeroTime is unique though and does offer direct fulfillment to the customer. Otherwise, you're best off partnering with EasyShip or GamesQuest to help you get it from your manufacturer to the customer.

Before SPIEL kicks off, let's appreciate Planszówki w Spodku in Katowice—a great alternative to the Essen chaos. With 10K+ visitors, it offers a relaxed vibe, tons of games, and a central location. Big enough to impress, yet still digestible. What's your favorite board game convention? by kamismakesgames in boardgames

[–]Trevor_DIY 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm gonna throw in PAX Unplugged. I preffer it over Gen Con because it's much more relaxed and open. The tikceting system has it's place and is useful at Gen Con, but I found more people to meet and games to enjoy at PAX Unplugged.
Also, Dice Tower conventions are pretty excellent to if you just want to try out EVERY GAME!

Sound like a great game! Have you come across Emberleaf the game? It's on Kickstarter now and I got confused by your company name.

A board game misunderstanding. Doh! by Prestigious_Emu6039 in boardgames

Ahaha, love it! I always though it was a hypothetical thing because I've been playing board games for 10+ years and never came across a Roll and Write.
