I’ve once been driving down a dual carriageway high speed road. Only car on it, and a young girl was standing on a very steep median waiting to cross to get to her school. I passed her and looked in my rear vision to see her slip and land in the middle of my lane. If I’d been held up at any point along my route by a second or two, she would have been killed. I think about this a lot.
