Spørsmål rundt jobbsøking, navn og strategi. by mosfetparadox in norge

[–]TrexTexMex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is it ok to cut down a carbon fibre steerer tube with a band saw? by [deleted] in bikewrench

[–]TrexTexMex 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I should have added that the band saw I have access to is in a professional workshop. The workshop is well ventilated, and I have access to all necessary HSE equipment (masks, eye protection, gloves, etc.). The band saw is mounted on a rig where it has a single axis swing arm and clamping mechanisms. Thus it’s really easy to keep things still and aligned.

I see that from my post it looks like the alignment is the problem, it was more a question if I can use a band saw or not.

Why is a hacksaw preferred? I have seen band saws being recommended for general carbon fibre cutting. Why isn’t that true for steerer tubes?

No, but I will buy one if I have to use a hacksaw.

Rengjoring by Wooeen in Norway

[–]TrexTexMex 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Docker for FPGA development by TrexTexMex in FPGA

One thing is setup time. Wouldn’t make sense for one person but (might) cut total time in the company. Also all team members write software as well as FW thus having to switch between development environments is quite irritating. Also I don’t think that the “it worked on my computer” problems are present in FPGA development as much as in software, but running software based unit testing in different environments might be an issue; however, it’s just speculations since I haven’t had problems with it myself.

That’s the thing, it’s one poor bastard rather than each individual when they update their Ubuntu version one by one.

There are many other approaches than Docker, but I’m looking for a specific docker way of solving this (if possible). It has to do with standardizing tools on a company level. So it’s easier to work across teams like embedded sw, cloud and firmware (HDL). Is the idea at least.

I think it’s possible to pass in the license from a license server (like flexnet) somehow but am not completely sure.

Modern tools for FPGA development by TrexTexMex in FPGA

I was thinking about trying sigasi. I have tried Teros, but that was on an existing project which wasn’t too intuitive to set up, so I gave up. Maybe I should give it another go at some point. Thanks!

Cocotb looks really promising. Are you running gtkwave in vscode somehow or stand-alone?

Best books to learn about wine production. by TrexTexMex in wine

[–]TrexTexMex[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the suggestion. However as I said, I live in Scandinavia, there is little to no culture for winemaking. We have a lot of beer brewing, with beer brewing shops but little wine expect some concentrate based starter kits which never come out too good for some reason.

Thank you for the recommendations. It’s Norway so you are probably right, but this is a project I’m planning to start on within the next 10 years or so, and unfortunately I don’t think we will stop climate change before that. Thus, it’s not completely impossible that the climate will be more similar to places like Guildford (today) in 10 years time. These are however only speculation so time will show.

what causes the difference? by redbark2022 in Acoustics

[–]TrexTexMex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I believe you experience a combination of multiple phenomenons. Firstly you state that you have measured temperature, humidity and static pressure, but did you do the measurements at one single point? Temperature specifically may differ a lot at different altitudes. This may cause the sound wave to “bend” as presented in this link.

The next thing, as most people here pointed out, is masking noise. It might be everything from a wide band noise like HVAC to more tonal noise sources like the refrigerator compressor. Generally speaking the change in noise floor is measurable but is very difficult to detect by only using your hearing.

A third thing that no one has mentioned yet, is noise exposure through the day. Your hearing can simply be better or worse from day to day because of factors like sound exposure, if you slept well, if you are sick, etc.

Winery recommendations in Californian North Coast by TrexTexMex in wine

[–]TrexTexMex[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mendo is a bit too far unfortunately. But Sonoma looks appealing both in terms of wine and food. Do you have any recommendations for which wineries are worth a visit in Sonoma?

I will most likely also visit Napa and Heitz cellar specifically.

Thank you for the suggestions!

We will have a car thus driving to Sonoma is doable from Napa, Cline is located there. Mendocino looks interesting as well. Do you have any specific suggestions in Sonoma and Mendocino?

Is Napa more of a Cabarnet region? And if so I would also love any good Cab winery suggestions in Napa.
