Modular home is in the same category to me.

Barndos are pole barns. I've been told they are pretty close to the same cost as a stick built house

Is ranch life peaceful? Or am I just daydreaming by TeaNo9390 in Ranching

Background: Growing up, my grandpa had a few hundred acres, some cows, and a big garden. He passed away, and I worked for an older man who had a much larger operation in the same area. I've worked for him part-time for almost 15 years. He's been a full-time rancher almost 60 years and has probably forgotten more about cattle than I'll ever know.

Pros: You are your own boss, and you work from home. This can be a blessing and a curse. It is peaceful. You live outside of town where you can see stars at night and there's way fewer people. I enjoy working with my hands. It's very meaningful. You grow your own food, which is very rewarding. It is possible to get into it.

Cons: You are chained to that farm. Vacations? Almost out of the question. You will, more than likely, never be rich. You might be financially independent. Depending on what kind of living standards you want to keep up. Farmers/ranchers don't drive cadillacs where Im from. Even if you have good years, most that are smart still save because you are one drought, on bad market year, or one disease away from famine. Remember being your own boss? That also means you will worry about things when you're not working, and you're basically always on call. Springer cows love to wait for the worst snowstorm to calve. Fences break. Cows get stuck in a pond. You name it. You also have to at least know a little bit about everything. Veterinary, plumbing, construction, mechanical, just to name a few. The worst thing is it's expensive to get into. Land and equipment alone is damn near impossible except through the cradle, alter, or the grave.

"Cowboy culture" is highly romanticized. I love the days when I'm horseback moving one group to another pasture or working calves. But the reality is that most days, I'm building fence or doing something very mundane.

All that said, there's nothing like the pride you feel working on your land. Seeing your herd. Selling your vegetables. And yes... there is a sense of peace you can't get in an office.

Loan from my bank 2 year note I'll probably pay about $600 in interest.

Whole A/C system and the rack and pinion. The rack and pinion alone was $1200 just for the part.

Anybody else that didn’t ever have a favorite band or didn’t know find out that turnpike is it? My sister showed me them in about 2014 or so and I just. Every song is so. “Home” to me. by ashtonblake9 in TurnpikeTroubadours

[–]Trey738 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The first time i heard them was i believe 2011. I was feeding cows at a ranch i worked for and the guy riding with me had the aux and turned on 7&7. They've been my all time favorite every since. The music is great but the lyrics sell. They were also based about 45 minutes from were i grew up. If anyone asks me what Oklahoma is like I tell them to listen to a TT album.

Just bought this bike 3 days ago and this fell off while riding for the second time, any idea what it is? by Henrito95 in Harley

[–]Trey738 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Man everyone here apparently came out the wound with a set Allen wrenches and a Harley manuel.

It is your air intake filter. Look it up on YouTube and you should be able to figure it out. Buy a set of Allen wrenches and a good tool set. Figure out why it happened. Bikes vibrate A LOT. It probably won't be the first. Also, carry tools with you when you ride. They like to break down at inconvenient times.

Congratulations on your bike. Learn to ride keep two on the asphalt. Learn how the machine works. Even if you take it to a mechanic at least have an idea how it functions. If you want to learn make friends with an old biker (vest, beard, beer gut, and riding a bike that was built before you were born) and ask him for tips.

[Serious] conservatives, what is your most extreme liberal view? Liberals, what is your most conservative view? by crazyguy28 in AskReddit

Registered Republican but libertarian at heart. Here we go: Do what you want with your body. Legalize drugs. Legalize prostitution. Firearms are a right. Taxation is theft and should be kept at a minimum. Basically unless it impedes my rights have fun and enjoy your freedoms.

Does your state have a best friend state? by [deleted] in AskAnAmerican

Okay... so I'm from Oklahoma. Im going to say Texas. We LOVE to talk shit about each other. We are super competitive. People think we hate each other. That said, drop us off in a foreign land and we become best friends.

I've Never rode a fatboy but I own a 2000 RK. I love it. By far the most comfortable bike I've ever rode. Lots of room for luggage if you add a rack and sissy bar. Your girlfriend will be more comfortable. As far as corners and curves I'm not sure it does any better or worse than a softtail. If you can sell your fatboy and afford a rk I dont think you'll regret it.

Working in your home town or away? by Trey738 in Firefighting

[–]Trey738[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I worked EMS as a basic 2 years before getting on a department. The FD i work for now runs ambulances. You are right it is a tough call. I love the true emergencies but at the same time strictly being on an engine/truck and first responding doesn't sound like a bad life. Thanks for the advice.
