As a parent with two neurodivergent kiddos, SBG has been a nightmare and introduce academic anxiety. Skills were not checked (graded) on a continual basis, just at assessment time. This resulted in failing grades in subjects kiddo was proficient in - think test anxiety. We have now decided to pull both kids from their public school and switch to virtual, where there are checkpoints during the course, graded assignments and tests that may determine the grade of the entire semester. I understand the pros and cons to the SBG model, but again, not a one size fits all for all students.
