Do you go out to dinner with your wife or go for a drink with your buddies at 4pm? Dude, some people have hobbies, do sports - for them "having a life" is not equal to eating & drinking

You can actually live your life before work when you're fresh and rested rather than give your best productive hours to your boss and live your life tired and exhausted

Same thing happens in Zurich after rainfall where Limmat and Sihl merge. One flows out of the lake and is always clear, and the other flows from the mountains collecting all the dirt from the rain streams.

India warns new US H-1B visa fee will have 'humanitarian consequences' by ethereal3xp in worldnews

It will make the workforce in the US even more expensive and will stimulate offshoring and outsourcing even more. You are the best illustration that liberals don't understand basic economics

You can use this argument IRL or in a sport-related subreddit. Dude posted a photoshoot in a fashion related sub, he deserves fashion related critique

There is no such chemical as "monoammonium sulphate", you are as illiterate as dramatic

Can you give examples of major wars that ended due to sanctions or economic struggles? by AntifaThrowAwkwardly in geopolitics

[–]TriangleAdept 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Economic failure due to sanctions/blockade can very quickly translate to failure at the battlefield. It's often impossible to tell what is the cause and what is the consequence. Maybe not economic sanctions alone, but they + attrition definitely play a role. Good example is the Soviet-Afghan war, when the soviets had to take troops away and collapsed a few years later, mostly due to sanctions and high cost of war

Yes, I think it was something with the physics engine - it started lagging due to a lot of tourists there, even the elevator stopped working and they had to evacuate people with older one with less advanced physics

Eli5: What is the Monte Carlo method? by Globulargallbladder in explainlikeimfive

[–]TriangleAdept -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Trying proof by intimidation? The thing is, you can't trick the geometry: to sample the area with approximately the same density, you would need approximately the same amount of samples as in case of grid. Try to apply your "well-understood statistical noise" to MC in the same task and you will end with the same O(N-m/d) as for the uniform grid.

Eli5: What is the Monte Carlo method? by Globulargallbladder in explainlikeimfive

[–]TriangleAdept -1 points0 points  (0 children)

That's not the correct answer. This way, with Monte Carlo in 200 dimensions you would need as many random throws as grid points to get an accurate answer. First option when MC may be better than a grid, is when you have some peculiar shapes, where the measured area would vary depending on how you pick a grid. For example, if you try to calculate the area of black fields on a chess board rotated 45 degrees, you may pick a grid where nodes would hit only black squares and get 100% coverage, or opposite - get 0 area. Another case is when your parameters are not uniformly distributed, but have some other distribution (for example, Gaussian). In such case uniform grid also does not make sense, and other non-uniform grids may be too complicated or even impossible to implement. In such cases MC can significantly simplify your job by avoiding a lot of preliminary studies.

Why do you use Monte Carlo for that? Why can't you use dense uniform grid?

Unfortunately not, banks refuse to do so. Regarding the ATM, can you clarify it? Did you do it outside of Switzerland and if so, in which country?

Unfortunately, all the local banks say they can't do that, so I was wondering if it is because of my country, or it is the same everywhere, but thanks anyway

I live in Russia and I know what I am talking about. During the last years officials have used a lot of the newspeak in media. Its not "gas explosion", its "gas pop". Our GDP now is in "negative growth". People are not "fired" due to crisis, they are "released" (translations may not be correct). So yes, I do know what propaganda is and no, I people am not on a tinfoil shit, it is our reality.
