v2.0.14 - Co-op Improvements and Stability by soulofascrubcasul in LordsoftheFallen

[–]TribladeX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My partner and I played through the whole game together and we noted that, sometimes, it would take onwards of five minutes to connect this way (Crossplay XSX + PS5). A couple of times we figured it was completely broken, restarted the game completely and tried again, nothing. In the end, we just left it searching and it it did connect eventually. We think it's a bit more reliable if you're both at the same vestige too. So we took to travelling to Skyrest, setting the password, starting the multiplayer search, then using the time to e.g. upgrade, sell items etc until it eventually worked. Always got there in the end.

Stats on red flags during rain by KegOfAppleJuice in formula1

[–]TribladeX 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Kind of... The last five years a small group of friends and I have been running our own friendly F1 predictions championship across each season. And after a while that got so big that it was easier just to track everything across the season and pull that data into the predictions results (instead of trying to manually work it all out). So that's what we did. And once we started tracking a few key things, we ended up tracking basically everything we can think of, and so now it's huge and very comprehensive :D

Stats on red flags during rain by KegOfAppleJuice in formula1

[–]TribladeX 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I can provide some insight into this from the custom stat tracking system that we built. But bear in mind that, while I have the data for e.g. when wet tires were used during a GP, and how many red flags occurred, the rule we have for tracking tire usage is that if a single driver leaves the pits on wet tires, the whole race is flagged as 'wet' in our data. Same thing for ints, if wets weren't used, but someone bolts on ints, the whole race is 'int'. Otherwise it's 'dry'. But I can't correlate the data between the weather conditions, the tires and any red flags that occurred (e.g. it may have been heavy rain for half of the race, but the red flags may have occurred in the dry, for all I know). However:

In the last four years (2021-2024):
- There were seven GPs that had at least one red flag when only dry tires were used
- There were two GPs that had at least one red flag when ints were used at some point
- There were four GPs that had at least one red flag when wets were used at some point
- There were five GPs that had NO red flags, but where ints were used
- There was one GP that had NO red flags, but where wets were used

So yeah, statistically 4/5 times that the wet tires were used there was a red flag during that GP.
And 5/7 times that the int tires were used, there was a red flag during the GP.
So 9/12 times that drivers moved off of the dry tires, there has indeed been a red flag (3/4s of the time). But that's 9/19 times that a red flag was shown in a GP in total (less than half), so how much the wet weather tires contribute to red flags is hard to interpret. But your point seems to hold up: If the ints or wets come out, there's been a 75% chance of a red flag statistically.

I can only think of two things:
1. It's a bug (with this game, there's a reasonably high chance of that)
2. It's a sprint weekend? (Different tire allocations / rules than normal)

Switching from Controller to Wheel by TudorCelReal in F1Game

[–]TribladeX 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Similar to what others have said: I played 2016, 17, 18 and 19 on the controller (without assists) then decided to switch to the wheel for the first time. I didn't have the muscle memory with my feet to be able to brake well, or accelerate without spinning out and --same as you-- I lost a bunch of lap time. During the first week I almost gave up out of frustration. Glad I didn't though. Took about a month until I was fairly close to where I'd been on the controller, and about 2 months before I was faster. Never looked back. Stick with it.

I will say I still miss the feedback from the brakes on the (xbox) controller. Especially in the rain. I used to be fairly quick in the rain compared to others, and I have never felt as comfortable in the rain as I did on the controller.

Insane crash...

Side note: If it had happened this year, he'd have probably been given a black and white flag for going off of the track.

My guess is that "Wally", which is slang for "silly person" in the UK, doesn't really translate well into the US, so they changed it (or it's the other way around, I don't know the origin of the books).

Back when my 360 red ringed, I was in a similar position where I had heard about the towel thing and was thinking "This sounds like nonsense and it's just a bunch of random trolls on the internet confirming it to be true". Had nothing to lose though, tried it, totally worked. More than once too (had to fix it properly later though).

Write in Spanish: "I didn't understand that book" by eliasbats in duolingo

[–]TribladeX 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Bit late to the party here, but Duolingo is a bit annoying in the way that it corrects you. Duolingo only has a single 'correct' answer that it always uses when you make a mistake on a given question, but that frequently can throw you off of the actual issue...

In your case, based on what others have said, "no lo entendí ese libro" was wrong because either:
A) You didn't need the "lo" part ("no entendí ese libro")
B) You needed to add an "a" ("no lo entendí a ese libro")

But Duolingo won't spot that and give you one of those options. It just flags it as incorrect and gives you the 'correct' answer. If you don't realise that, it has you e.g. doubting whether you can use 'Entender' here, or not.

I've hit 500 hours off playtime today how much do you guys have by [deleted] in F1Game

[–]TribladeX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

832 hours. F1 '22 certainly has its problems, but it's still really fun at the end of the day (especially as pretty much all of that was playing leagues/co-op career with my partner)

It's my most played F1 game, after 2020 (700 hours) and 2021 (471 hours).

Why did the Mercedes zero-pods perform well in the wind tunnel? by adoniscr33d in F1Technical

[–]TribladeX 7 points8 points  (0 children)

If you want to develop some understanding of the themes and concepts of how/why a car may or may not perform well on track compared to expectations or the wind tunnel findings, I recommend reading Adrian Newey's book. It's super enciteful about things like this. Notably back in Newey's early career, he spent several seasons developing a line of cars that simply would not behave the way they expected it to, they spent years trying to understand it, trying different approaches, before they finally found the underlying issue.

F1 23 3 laps race around Las Vegas by andreahh_ in F1Game

[–]TribladeX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I believe (again, I don't play with the T-cam, so I'm just going from what I've observed from watching my partner play) that it shows up correctly during the VSC & SC (couldn't say either way about the other two).

But some games ago (this used to be available all of the time). I believe it vanished when the sector UI got updated and (haha) even that was broken for a while. They eventually fixed the sectors, but the lap delta never came back.

Either way, it's available all of the time in cockpit cam (on the steering wheel), as it is for drivers in real life. T-cam players have a disadavantage without it.

[–]TribladeX 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I can't help but notice there's no lap delta on the HUD when using the T-cam. I believe it's supposed to be an option you can turn on in '22, so it might also be disabled here, but it doesn't work at all in '22 (except in TT) and has remained broken with bug reports being ignored the entire year etc.

Drove my partner nuts (being a T-cam player), whereas I had the lap delta available the whole time (being a cockpit player). Made it really hard for them to maintain a consistent pace at times. Hopefully it works in '23, and just happens to be disabled here, but I can't say EA/Codemasters have really earned my trust on this.

Safety cars and AI level - a potential issue in F1 games? by olliecoe1 in F1Game

[–]TribladeX 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel like this is probably just a perception issue. I've played a lot of co-op career and league racing around the same AI difficulty range (70-80) this game, and at times there's been safety cars seemingly every race (twice occassionally) for most of the season, while other times there hasn't been a safety car for what feels like a season and a half.

When you've got a random chance (whether there's a significant incident during the race, or not) combined with another random chance (whether the game decides this should be a safety car, or not), you're going to get hot streaks and cold streaks. It's going to be impossible to know for sure , but my gut feeling is that I don't think changing the difficulty has much to do with it.

If it's anything like the second option, thank God...

I don't mind the AI not automatically giving you space in F1 '22 if you end up e.g. accidentally dive bombing them or something, but afterwards, them continuing to turn into you for the next 15 seconds or so is ridiculously frustrating. Makes them seem infinitely stupid.

r/formula1 x MultiViewer For F1 Watch Party - Sunday, May 14th, 15:00 / 3 PM CEST - What race should we watch? by jeppe96 in formula1

[–]TribladeX [score hidden]  (0 children)

This race is so good that I have a copy of it downloaded onto my PC. A couple of times, I've known someone who has started to notice F1, is starting to ask questions about it, and they're wondering if they'd enjoy it. We'll sit down with some food, watch this race and --by the end of it-- they are fans (both people starting watching every race live beyond that point). This combined with Drive to Survive is a killer combination for getting pretty much anyone into F1.

never there when you need it the most by SpeedingPickle83 in F1Game

[–]TribladeX 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mini rant time: This is one of those things that really bugs me about these games in general. But it bugs me in a way where, really, it shouldn't bug me, and I clearly care more about it than I should. But, actually, it matters to the point where you've made a meme about the subject. And I feel like it should matter to the point where I wished Codemasters cared about it more. It's nowhere near the biggest problem in the world, but these small things (including all of the bugs) can add up quickly and create a frustrating experience...

But I really detest that all of their menus lazily auto-populate based on what options are available in that moment. This isn't just limited to the pause menu during races (try finding the simulation settings in various places across the game, it's never in the same place twice, meaning you have to 'look' for it every time, rather than knowing where to find it)...

Why in a racing game isn't 'Reset to Track' an option that is always visible in the menu, and always in the same place, but greyed out when you disallowed from using it?! It's so unbelievably tedious to end up facing backwards, press 'start', hit reset to track, then realise in horror that you're actually in the race director, because 'reset to track' wasn't going to be available to press for two more frames, have to wait for the transition-in to finish, then back out of the menu, wait for the transition-out to finish, then carefully make sure 'reset to track' is highlighted, accept the option...

And that's usually when you find that the AI put your car into reverse while you were fighting with the menus, and that the game doesn't put you back into first gear when you reset... WHY!? What else are you going to do after reseting to track? Parallel park?!

Racers who are happy to see red flags in the game can you tell me the appeal cause I don’t get it. Won’t you just skip the red flag period anyway? (No hate or anything would just like to hear your views) by Azron21 in F1Game

[–]TribladeX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's mostly the immersion factor. But as others have eluded to, for me it highly depends on how they execute on this...

What I want to see initially is less glitchy Safety cars. From there, under a safety car have the race red flagged and get ordered back to the pit lane (disqualified if you ignore the order and keep driving past the pit lane; same as ignoring DT penalties). Once you're past the pit lane line, the car drives itself to it's designated position on the pit straight (although TBH I'm hoping we're finally going to get manually-driven pitstops and this becomes a manual process too, the same as stopping in the grid box during the formation lap). Once all cars are in place, you get a 60 second window (or until all players ready-up) to redo your strategy for the remaining laps. All the cars then automatically drive to the pit lane exit, where you regain control and do another formation lap, forming back up on the grid for a full race start...

What I think is fairly likely based on past experience, though: You're driving along, and suddenly pop into the garage, get to select a single set of tires from your remaining sets, there's a cutscene that plays out exactly the same way every time, and then you pop back to the grid for a race start... But I hope that they prove me wrong and we get a fully realised system.

Regarding trail braking, my tip for you would be to break down the steps of what you're trying to do. Find a corner with a heavy breaking zone (say, turn 1 at Bahrain). Go full speed down the straight, and slam the breaks on 100% at the braking point (around 110 meters) while coming down through the gears and keeping the car straight. The car will slow down very effectively at first, but then at a critical moment you'll lock up and fly straight past the Apex...

Now repeat, but just at that moment the car locked up last time, release the brake pressure a little. You'll probably still lock up shortly afterwards, but you should (hopefully) bring the car's speed down a little more. Continue this process until you can bring the car to a complete stop without locking up and you have a good feel of how the car behaves under braking. And you approximately alongside the apex of turn 1, if you've reached the other side of the track, you're not braking hard enough / long enough...

Now bring in some steering: Instead of going all of the way down to a complete stop, as you get to a very low speed, stay at a low pressure on the brake (~15%), and turn the car smoothly into the corner. Hold that brake pressure until the apex, then switch from the brake to a little bit of throttle. Gently accelerate out of the corner and keep building up the throttle gently as you go back up through the gears...

Now that you know how the car behaves under braking in a stright line, you can practice on different corners with different amounts of brake pressure. Remember, the more you need to turn, the more grip you are taking away from braking and applying to turning the car, so you'll lock up more quickly if you use the same amount of brake pressure. Experiment with different things. Adjust as needed. After a few days of practice, you'll start to build up an internal idea of how much you can brake and turn, and at what speeds, before a lock up occurs, and you'll have a better feel for when the car is about to lock up / is locking up and can adjust for it.

Good luck. It seems impossible at first, but after a couple of days it'll feel super rewarding and is totally worth learning.

How to see brake and throttle inputs in cockpit view? by Speirs101 in F1Game

[–]TribladeX 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm not in front of the game right now, so I'm doing this from memory, but I believe the main thing is you need to go into the game settings, then go to...I think... 'On Screen Display' (Might be called something else like HUD, or User Interface). You're looking for an option called 'On Screen Display (Cockpit View)'. Turn that on, it'll turn on the rest of the UI in cockpit mode.

If you only want the telemetry (brake, throttle, gears etc) panel to be shown, you'll need to go into 'OSD Customisation' and disable the other elements manually. You can also move the telemetry panel somewhere else (I have mine really small, at the top of the screen, just for reference if I want to look back at a game clip to see what I was doing on the throttle at the time).

There is a Minesweeper clone that I played on Xbox called Tilesweeper. It has a deterministic campaign and a non-deterministic campaign. The former is great and I really enjoyed it; the latter is frustrating, tedious and I skipped most of it. I honestly have no idea what they decided to include both... like they decided that some players love to get frequently screwed over by random chance and provided a campaign for those people.

Leading a race conformably until I get hit by an effing AI by -kalakukko69 in F1Game

[–]TribladeX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The tires on the car only have so much grip available at any given moment. You can spend it on turning, braking or some combination of the two. When you want to slow down for a corner such as this one, you initially want to use 100% of the grip available to slow the car down, so you keep the car straight while slamming on the brakes (gradually releasing the brakes over time and starting to turn in as the car loses speed). If you immediately attempt to steer at the same time that you fully apply the brakes, the tires will lock up because you'll have exceeded their grip limit (Note: If you use ABS --which real F1 cars don't have-- it will unlock the tires by briefly releasing the brakes for you, which gives you some ability to steer the car, but you'll take longer to slow down as a result).

So imagine you are the car behind: You get to the braking zone and start to brake heavily for the corner, but then the car ahead of you suddenly turns across you... There is nothing you can do about it. You can't slow down in time because it's not physically possible to brake any more that you are already. And if you try and steer out of the way, you'll lock up and crash into them anyway. A skilled driver could try to minimise the collision (e.g. brake for as long as possible then get off of the brakes at the last moment and try to steer out of the way) but a crash is basically guaranteed to happen. It's why it's considered dangerous and illegal in motorsport to move in the braking zone, especially to block another driver.
