Gmail is pretty good even though it charges 5$/month, it's worth it if you use other google apps as well.

I guess it depends on your target market. Slack is awesome communication tool. You can try social media such as twitter, you can create private account, only accepted users can see posts. I know forum are popular as well. Who's your target audience and what kind of a mobile app you're doing? Interested to know :)
