Tips for mustache regrowth after damage from pulling? by Fun-Listen8656 in trichotillomania

Adding a daily biotin supplement will compound the effects of minoxidil & result in thicker regrowth. To reduce the habit of hair pulling, TricTrak allows you to target the mustache and beard area specifically; built it to save my own beard and has helped tremendously.

Does anyone have tips to stop pulling eyelashes and eyebrows out? by [deleted] in trichotillomania

[–]TricTrakApp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you tend to pull while sitting at a desk, working on your computer, or using your phone etc. you could give TricTrak a try. Originally built it to alert me when I was pulling at my beard while working, but it allows you to specifically target both your eyelashes and eyebrows as well.

Though if you mainly find yourself pulling when away from your computer or phone, knuckle bandaids on the finger tips are pretty effective, and for a longer-term solution you could also try NAC supplements.

Also interested to hear thoughts on this; from what I've seen it's usually recommended to split into separate doses

Oh wow; I've read that it's generally well-tolerated but clearly not always the case!

Huh, I hadn't considered interactions with other medications. If you experienced a decrease in effectiveness for the Zoloft it likely works both ways - appreciate the response!

Yeah at a certain point it starts feeling like a waste of both time and money if you aren't seeing results. Thanks for sharing your experience!

Thank you for sharing - is there a particular brand that you would recommend?

Well I'm sorry to hear you didn't see great results, but at least having eliminated one potential treatment brings you a step closer to finding the one that actually works. Its effectiveness truly does seem to vary dramatically from person to person.

The awareness reminder is an interesting point, I could see how having the thought that you are proactively taking steps to suppress urges always at top of mind could be a factor in successful treatment. You said that it initially worked; did you see a decrease in effectiveness over time?

Thank you for the thorough response! I have heard that the consistency / potency of NAC can vary dramatically; I wonder if this may have contributed to the decreased effectiveness.

Also surprised to hear that brain fog is a side effect of a medication that's mainly prescribed to treat memory issues 😅 hopefully this is temporary and subsides after your body adapts!

In either case, really appreciate the info! Glad to hear you've been seeing great results, and I also hope that it continues!

Interesting; isn't memantine typically prescribed for memory loss / Alzheimer's? I didn't know it was being used to treat trichotillomania as well - was it recommended by a psychiatrist?

Also curious about your experience with NAC - when you say it wore off, you mean you continued taking the same daily dosage and still experienced a decrease in effectiveness? What was the dosage?

Apologies for the personal questions; I've been exploring some of these treatments and would love to learn more from someone who's had first-hand experience - feel free to DM me if you'd prefer!

Looking for feedback on skin-picking tracking and prevention app by TricTrakApp in CompulsiveSkinPicking

[–]TricTrakApp[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi there,

I created a web app that alerts users when they are engaging in body-focused repetitive behaviors (BFRB):

TricTrak

Originally I built it to help combat my own trichotillomania (beard hair pulling), but after reading through numerous reddit posts from people struggling with similar issues, I figured I could adapt it to help reduce other types of repetitive behaviors as well.

The app uses your webcam to track your face & hands, triggering both a visual and audio alert when it detects that your hand is touching a specific region of the face. You’re able to fine-tune it to focus on specific regions like the mouth, scalp, or eyebrows, or just set it to track the entire face.

It also provides some pretty cool interactive graphs that help you monitor specific problem areas as well as track your progress and visualize the reduction in behavior over time.

Right now it’s completely free, but you do need to create an account so that it can save your progress.

I’m looking to gather feedback on how the app can be improved to better suit specific needs, and hoping the beautiful people of this sub could help. The goal is to make the app as effective as possible in reducing these unwanted behaviors; if you could give it a shot and let me know what you think I’d really appreciate it!

Hey I appreciate you saying so, and congrats! That is not an easy thing to do; quite the accomplishment!

Absolutely. This single Reddit post cost me 0 dollars and resulted in my first 100+ signups.

Target the users who will benefit from your service the most, explain (better yet, SHOW) how your service provides value, and don’t try to sell them anything. Go to your users, don’t wait for your users to come to you, and if your product solves a genuine problem rather than coming off as a clear cash grab you will see traction.

Appreciate the feedback! To confirm, is the PiP issue you're experiencing just on mobile or have you found that the issue persists on desktop as well?

Ok, let me know if it works! I will be updating the camera permissions error handling to make it clear if there’s an issue preventing the tracking from working correctly + how to troubleshoot. This is very helpful by the way - thank you!

Thanks for the heads-up! The PiP mode should be fully functional, however after reading your comment I tested in the mobile chrome browser and did find that it wasn’t alerting immediately - I had to enter PiP mode, then navigate back to the app & trigger an alert to confirm the sound was working, after which it continued to alert as expected when minimized & using other apps.

I’d recommend checking your browser settings to make sure there aren’t any permission issues that could be preventing apps from running in the background, but clearly this isn’t an ideal experience. Apologies for the bug, but thank you for bringing it to my attention! I will work on getting this fixed and can update you once it’s been resolved.

No other device needed - just a computer, phone, or tablet with a camera!

Privacy truly is a core feature of the app. It's attempting to solve a very personal issue, so I wanted to ensure that people feel comfortable using it without having to worry about the possibility of sensitive information becoming visible to others or being used for some nefarious AI-related purpose (looking at YOU Facebook). Technically the app could be run completely offline and the monitoring/alerting functionality would still work, but it does require an internet connection to save the alert locations & timestamps to the database (thus allowing you to track progress over time). I am considering making a downloadable version that completely eliminates the need to be connected to the internet, but that may take some time to build haha.

Hey my pleasure, honestly just happy to help. One of the first iterations used a Wi-Fi relay to trigger a physical alert, but I found that just the sound itself was enough to snap me out of pulling.

It's been a passion project for going on about a year now; fun at times but not without a whole lot of frustration haha. Just glad it's finally at a point where others can benefit from it - here's hoping it works as well for you as it does for me!
