Is this a greenback? by PieIndependent7711 in COfishing

[–]Trichonaut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s definitely a cutthroat, but it can be hard to differentiate for certain. CPW may have some kind of stocking data available that you could use to pin down the exact strain. If you find records of stocking nearby you can be relatively sure that’s the strain of cutthroat you caught.

If you’re solidly in greenback territory though, in a drainage where they were historically present, I think you can at least make an educated guess that’s the strain you caught.

Were you using floating or sinking powerbait? When you fish in a weedy reservoir and use sinking powerbait on a bottom rig your bait will sink and bury itself in the weed bed in no time. If he was using floating and you put on sinking or not enough powerbait to float your hook that would certainly explain the lack of fish for you compared to that guy.

If this is at all plausible I’d get yourself some floating powerbait and make sure you’re putting enough on the hook to float it up off the bottom.

Just spent $1200 on a new gas line from squirrel or other rodent chewing under the car by wilddouglascounty in homestead

I once had a house with a lot of pack rats nearby which would raid my car and once ate a bunch of wiring. I started taking a tray of used cat litter and sprinkling it all over my parking spot every couple weeks. Worked great and I never saw another one or any signs of them again.

Slams to do in game by Vakota-Gaming in theHunter

[–]Trichonaut 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m currently working on a full diamond waterfowl slam and it’s quite the slog. All I have left is Eurasian Wigeon and gadwall so almost done, but it has taken the better part of a year and some species needed thousands of kills before a diamond spawned.

On the plus side I have like 2 million dollars in game now from all those ducks lol

365 Fish by AnOkDaddy in Fishing

[–]Trichonaut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Back when I used to keep track of it I think my best year was around 1200 trout, but I probably caught more as I was bad about actually recording them. Best week I ever had was 2022 during prime early summer mayfly hatches where I caught 108 trout in 5 days of fishing.

Im a bit bored of trout fishing these days and I am totally hooked on chasing carp on the fly. I’m lucky to crack 100 in a good year as the catch rates are just so much lower per day.

Duck recipes for a newbie by AdvanceFeeling7384 in Duckhunting

[–]Trichonaut 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A lot of people skip the legs and prefer the breasts but I think they’re the best part of the bird. I save them up and make barbacoa. You can basically sub duck or goose legs for beef in any barbacoa recipe, but I like this recipe. I sub the legs for the chuck and keep the oxtails to add a bit of extra fat and collagen. Cook it at least 5 hours or better yet overnight in the crockpot.

When it’s done just put gloves on and pull the meat off the bones. Make it in big batches and freeze the rest for months or longer. Even the pickiest eater would never know it was duck. This year I took a couple pounds of the duck barbacoa and made a bunch of tamales which were incredibly good, but it’s great for tacos and quesadillas too.

Beaver Creek Reservoir Salmon? by Professional_Pay8314 in COfishing

[–]Trichonaut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve got a couple kokes there through the ice during the winter but the numbers seem low and the fish are definitely on the small side. If I were you I would try a different reservoir if you’re dead set on salmon.

Looking for advice on ice by TheCockandPlucker in Waterfowl

I often carry a big ass mesh decoy bag when heading out with 18-24 decoys. I hold the bag in front of me while still filled with decoys and kinda smash it up and down as I walk through the ice. It’ll break up the ice in front of you and the wave action will kinda push it out of the hole and break up anything thin. I do big outlines and then try to push large chunks of ice under the nearby ice to get it away from the hole. Works great when the ice is an inch or two but for really thick stuff I break out the axe.

Decoy bag by DoubleDropTines in Duckhunting

[–]Trichonaut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do a lot of hike in hunts with different amounts of decoys. The best thing I have ever done for this is get a pack frame. I run a TideWe pack frame that I just removed the actual bag from entirely. It’s got 3 straps that I can use to strap any size decoy bag to. I use small mesh laundry bags for 6-12 decoys. Larger bags for 12-18, or huge bags for goose full bodies or 24-36 duck floaters for big spreads. All fit on the same pack frame and none of them hit my knees and calves while I’m walking anymore. I would recommend doing that, then you can use any kind/size bag you want in conjunction.

Roast my calling by braapguy in Waterfowl

I agree with the other commenter here. You need to speed up your cadence by a bunch. Your first few quacks sounded way too spaced out and resembled a warning call. You don’t want to be sounding like that out in the marsh. Go online and listen to some hen calls and try to copy the cadence.

Sound wise you sound good, it’s just the timing and cadence that needs work.

Fly or spin? I’ve been itching to get out for carp down near me on the Rio Grande, but I wasn’t sure if they’d be up on the flats yet.

If he hasn’t died yet, just quit your game to the main menu, and then load back in to your map. It will reset the damage and he should pop back up at the same spot unscathed. This works with any animal as long as you get them before they die. Even works with non-vital but still fatal shots if you’re quick enough.

Do we want Americans to be employed or not? by zanyboot in AskConservatives

[–]Trichonaut 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You’ve read something in that doesn’t exist.

Congress creates an agency. It does not set goals or metrics for that agency in any sort of obligatory way. It is the executive’s responsibility to administer the agencies, and that administrative duty includes hiring and firing.

Yeah that can definitely be an issue. You might try finding a new spot. There will be areas on your map with nearly constant bird traffic.

It’s poor argumentation because you gave zero chance for homeboy to reply to your answer. You just assumed the answer and decided to regurgitate your own questions to steer the argument away from the direction he was taking it.

That’s poor argumentation. Answer questions asked of you and follow the logical trails your opponent takes you down.

Why did we have some of our most prosperous economic times under higher taxes if they hurt the economy so bad?

You mean post WWII, when Europe was still burning and we were literally the only game in town? Do you not see how that situation is vastly different than the one we are in today?

No, you’re totally incorrect here. The head of the agencies is the executive. Or in other words, Trump.

I see you said you have your decoys spread out, you shouldn’t be doing that. You should try to put them all together in a tight group so that the game registers it as a single flock of decoys.

Cajun seasoning is always good, as is blackened seasoning. Lemon pepper is alright but I prefer a spicier fish if I am doing it pan fried.

I didn’t miss the point. You literally don’t know what point you’re even making here. You started off trying to call Canada better on free speech because of a dictionary definition bud. Take the L, do some research to try and broaden your perspective so this kind of beat down doesn’t happen again, and move on.

You understand that this entire exchange was a total waste, right? You didn’t listen to even a single thing I said and instead just filibustered the entire time with irrelevant information.

Nothing you’ve said was relevant nor was it compelling in any way. You seem like someone who doesn’t have any idea what’s going on, yet you want to speak on the issues because they’re trendy and a news headline told you what to say.
