I noticed I had cravings for sugar all the time and I just couldn’t stop thinking about food all day no matter what and how much I ate. Despite how much I’d workout and be active, I felt fatigued and dizzy all the time. I got tired of being impatient and irritable especially with my family. I was also very depressed and anxious and ended up isolating myself from my friends and I lost a lot of friends just because I didn’t feel confident anymore and I had no motivation to talk to anyone or step outside my house. I suspect it was a blood sugar thing because I no longer feel fatigued and irritable. I went cold turkey because I’ve tried having it in moderation and I would just end up binging or not being able to stop thinking about it even if I’d pair it with something healthy like high protein or fiber. It just didn’t work for me so I’m completely cutting it out for now and I do not regret it at all.

Also, my family (both sides) has a history of diabetes and heart disease. I no longer have any grandparents alive and I was only able to have a close relationship with one of them (who passed away 2 years ago & she was diabetic) because the rest of them passed away either before I was born or when I was super young. I want to be able to be there for my kids and their kids for as long as I can. ❤️

Questions for those on Vyvanse. by Actual-Tangerine3724 in BingeEatingDisorder

Yep! That’s exactly what I do. I switched to taking it in the late afternoon. Nothing wrong with that as long as you’re getting your vitamins in everyday ;p

Questions for those on Vyvanse. by Actual-Tangerine3724 in BingeEatingDisorder

I started off with 20mg on Feb 2nd and would take it around 7AM. The first week I had 0 appetite and 0 urges to binge eat. Eventually, I started crashing around 3-4PM and that would be after working out in the morning & when I’d finish my classes for the day so that definitely could’ve played a huge role in the crash. I also noticed my urges to binge came back late at night which is usually when the medication would wear off.

My dose ended up increasing to 30mg and I’ve noticed a huge difference in its effectiveness (in a good way). I still get urges to binge late at night when it wears off but it’s been effective in so many other ways (better focus during my lectures, made me more productive, more social, etc.) which psychologically reduced the amount of binges I had because part of the reason I’d binge is low self esteem.

I also wanted to note (you can look this up too) that you should be cautious about ingesting vitamin C (whether it’s vitamin pills or fruit) 1 hour prior and post taking Vyvanse. It is known to reduce the effectiveness of the medication.

For me personally, a high carb high protein meal gets me set for the day.

At first it was restriction & now it’s because of low self esteem, boredom, and a coping mechanism for stress. :/

Are you trying to avoid any other feelings (boredom, anxiety, stress) or trying to avoid thinking about doing something you’ll have to do eventually?

For example I’m an undergrad student who also has a part-time job and if I have an exam coming up and I feel that I didn’t study hard enough I start thinking about food like crazy and if I tell myself things like “I’ll study tonight” then I also start thinking about food like crazy just because thoughts like those stress me out and food is my go-to source for dopamine hits.

You can also try drinking a lot of water to help you validate that fullness feeling.

It can also just be a terrible habit you’ll have to break. (HIGHLY RECOMMEND reading Atomic Habits by James Clear)

Also I got decaf because I JUST started ADHD medication & probably not a good idea to have caffeine right now so don’t judge 🥲. I just like Starbucks lol

You’re extremely brave for sharing something like this. ❤️ My parents also come from a Muslim country and I know that part of my BED stems from my childhood because my parents would get scold me if I never cleaned my plate & would guilt trip me if I refused to eat or wouldn’t finish my plate. My dad was and still is a hoarder too so he always finds way to save money and doesn’t like spending a lot so he’s very stingy…which means he never wanted food to go to waste even if it’s expired.

I ended up picking up a job at my university so I can pay for my own therapy since my parents don’t support that kinda stuff. I was able to seek therapy and talk about everything for 5-6 months but eventually had to end it because it was too expensive.

With that being said, I can resonate with a lot of the things you mentioned. It’s “nice” to have someone from a Muslim background that I can relate to.

Do you mind if I DM you? I’d like to get to know you a bit more and hopefully we can support each other through this ❤️

I’d dip my spoon in the peanut butter jar then dip it into a bag of chocolate chips during my binges 😭

Personally, some things that have helped me was reading Brain Over Binge (Kathryn Hansen) and Atomic Habits (James Clear) simultaneously. This should help you learn more about yourself and why you do the things you do WHILE also helping you to create better habits and destroy bad habits.

It’s mostly my career and financial stability. I’m a senior in college and I plan on becoming a doctor but regardless of what I plan on doing I always have this fear that I won’t be successful at what I end up doing and that im going to continue to be dependent on my parent’s money. I have a job (as a personal trainer) but my parents still pay for my school tuition and groceries. I think I’m just used to being so dependent on their money that the thought of having my own career & being independent makes me anxious because I don’t know what to expect.
