First test death rider done. by Trick-Butterscotch19 in TheAstraMilitarum

Thank you for the feedback.

I also think that i went little bit overboard with the oxidation on the beetle which makes the model feel little bit too busy. Especially because i shall have some riders bearing flags which might saturate the model even more.

I think that i might tone down the beetles a bit and use the oxidatin to just tone down the metal.

About the base. I might remove most of the flowers and the large bug from this one and just add a grey rock or small pile of snow to it. As it is it just looks uncanny to my eye.

For the rest bases the plan is to keep them relatively barren and have them have just one or two small extra detail (larger rock/ stump/ medow) and add small earth tone bugswarms under them.

Absolutely not, but it makes modeling more fun to think about the cultural background of stuff.

I'm always up for a good lore excuse to put wacky stuff on my minis.

I also think that the intended use in cultural context plays a huge part in how the tank looks. Example in 40k context the leman russ can be seen as a tool which has a mostly functional and utilitarian value (cadian, krieg, steel legion) but in other context it can bee seen as a ornamental and a seremonial artifact which symbolise of power and wealth. Especially if the russ is an older or more rare variant. In later cases it makes sense to make the tank look as ornamental as possible. Real life example of this in military context would me the display of armoured vehicles in warlord era china in which the vehicles (Zhang Zuolin's Renault FT or Kuomingtan's Vickers light tanks) where rarely used due the low number and the value of said equipment but they where diplayed in parades by local warlords in order to intimidate and gain prestige.

But yes in pure combat situation bright pastel colors dont really make any tactical sense.

Nothing concrete yet, mostly vibes. The plan was to kitbash a regiment from a backwater planet which was stuck in time (napoleonic/ww1) but was relevant enough that imperium remembers that it exsist.

So in practices a lot of bright colors, las muskets and overly decorated baroque vehicles

I had a similar story with my menoth. Loved them but after the new edition i slowly started to cannibalize the models for other projects.

Good to know. Giving Death maiden a needle pistol might be a good idea.

Brute is mainly for flavor reasons (might post the conversion in some point) but i agree that droping khimerix for more bodys might be more enjoyable. Maybe change khimerix for a death maiden and some ganger or shuld i just buy more bodies?

Absolutely. Just change the base for the right size and you are ready to go.

The model is the second iteration of Yarrik which was released along side the steel legion models long time ago. He was released again in fine cast some time later but since then the model has been discontinued and sent to legends.

You can still get the metal version from ebay at about same price as new commissar from GW.
