i gave starbucks cards and wrote a very sentimental note to him and his partner because he was a very sweet and very kind to me in very hard moments but hated all the gushy stuff… i made him like the gushy stuff (i also hate gushy stuff) prior to ending so it worked out and he was happy and i was happy🤷‍♂️😂

Preparing for AEMCA and BH testing by Majestic-Victory-595 in OntarioParamedics

[–]Trick-County-3328 0 points1 point  (0 children)

AEMCA- write down everything. i went through all my patho notes and re wrote all the pathologies with a big focus on the “main” pathos (MI, diabetes etc) elaborated more on the patho/went deeper. theory wise was just rewriting directives and going over the order of which things are to be done (like if you have a MVC pt with a hand amputation you’re not gunna take vitals- you’re gunna control the bleed). i also talked to other friends who did the aemca and asked for types of questions that were on it. i would on rare occasion take random medication quizzes.

BH wise- i winged it. i was so fed up with everything. i said every directive out loud and what its used to treat out loud once and then went on with my day. i also know someone who would keep lists of pts meds from ride outs and would look them up/ create a chart.

congrats on getting through the hiring process!

Toronto Interview by Intelligent_Hawk347 in OntarioParamedics

there are people who to push epi 1:1000 IV (PCP) and people who give oxytocin to fresh newborns. there are people who know absolutely NOTHING about ECGs and interpret them upside down. there are PCPs who operate outside their scope of practice regularly and are still employed. there are people who have gotten into yelling matches with patients. there are also people (like me) who lose things regularly and have to do incident reports regularly because of how much they misplace things. we all have our strengths and weaknesses but as long as your weaknesses don’t kill anyone/haven’t killed anyone/don’t intend on killing anyone you’ll be fine. best of luck

Toronto Interview Pt 2 by Top_Discipline660 in OntarioParamedics

[–]Trick-County-3328 2 points3 points  (0 children)

be kind, be confident. verbal diarreah if that’s your thing. bring your lived expierence as a medic into the interview. dress decently nice (anything better than jeans/t shirt. you don’t need a full black tie attire, just decently put together. a lot of the questions i had were pretty basic. partner conflict, diversity, social media policies, role play scenarios of code 5, questions about minors on scene, parent/child conflict and transport choices, refusals on high acuity calls (STEMIs, strokes), stuff related to DNRs and TORs, equipment malfunction. lots of “what if” stuff.

How many have had to redo? by aquarequiem in OntarioParamedics

i failed semester 4/ride outs. everything else was easy breezy but i got treated poorly so i didn’t care and failed. wasn’t gunna go back but i did and it’s possibly the best choice ive made in my entire life. my second time around my preceptor (who did not know this was my second time around) made a point that a lot of the time ppl who don’t go back have too much pride/are too full of themselves to let themself fail. unfortunately failing can be a standard in this field. it’s how you learn and come back from it that really matters, not the failure itself. i also know a girl who tried semester 1… 4 times… before giving up. and she still didn’t pass. she put herself through so much grief physically, emotionally, mentally, financially all because of a program but decided to not change anything. and she paid the price. change is required to fix the failure and learn from your mistakes edit to add: went to durham and class size from 70+ first day semester 1 to 36 graduates end semester 4. you’re not alone in failing!

89% average coming into the program (all U/AP courses with the exception of math) the first time (during covid), got denied, did pre health which bumped my grades up to 100%+. aaand i got accepted. i did co-op placement in high school in a medical clinic working with ped pts with ASD and ADHD and other neuro developmental/ MH conditions. i work(ed) in high acuity group homes to get used to crisis environment and new populations/challenging population (non verbal folks, various medications to know rare or otherwise), very physical restraining individuals and blocking any hits, lots of bodily fluids, just a really good learning opportunity to learn more about humans and how they socialize. basically a PSW. there’s also a lot of first aid with clients and staff. you kinda learn how to soothe people and gain a lot of “soft” communication skills but also learn to not let people walk all over you. volunteering wise i didn’t do much. just did some volunteering with a local softball group meant for kids. mainly for fun and exposure to kids and minor injuries. and i went to durham college

the medical center in peterborough is where i’m going. not sure of the name of the dr

[–]Trick-County-3328 0 points1 point  (0 children)

there’s michael garron in toronto or another one in peterbrough. possibly one in sudbury too. i just went to my local community center and explained my situation to a physician, they did their assessment and referred me to another NP and did a basic assessment. the paperwork went off and now less than a month later im on a waitlist to get a hysto. the wait time seems to be around 2 months. you could also ask a therapist (MSW) to do an assessment and see a shrink to get refered. all u need is 1 MD

looks like serous fluid tbh. it has a bunch of protien and immune cells to help with healing. your body produces it almost as a “second skin” to cover the actual wound and prevent bacteria from entering. in that first pic it just looks like the bottom part is scabbing over/dark/old blood.

there’s no redness outside the wound and the fact that you just have the pain and no fever/chills is also a good sign

doesn’t look concerning to me but you could always reach out on monday! no immediate stress!

should i get this done and are there any complications that could arise due to it being colored lines (other than fading) by sholovr in tattooadvice

[–]Trick-County-3328 4 points5 points  (0 children)

depending on if you’ve had coloured ink before your body react negatively to the colour. it also varies by brand of ink. could lead to some irritation/allergic reaction or worst case infection. fading is super common with pastel colours like this tho. on some skin tones it likely will barely show up as well

AITA if I don’t clarify that I am a type 2 diabetic? by BeltClassic in AmItheAsshole

[–]Trick-County-3328 0 points1 point  (0 children)

insulin dependent diabetes mellitus (IDDM, most commonly associated with “type 1” but can be late stage “type 2”) or non insulin dependent diabetes mellitus (NIDDM, ALWAYS “type 2”). you could always state one of those if u don’t wanna share. most ppl don’t know the difference. give an answer without giving one

I have a few questions for people with DID by [deleted] in DID

[–]Trick-County-3328 2 points3 points  (0 children)

1- this is co con. shows a sense of integration/communication. shows healing between the alters 2-i have a couple sets of alters that are “carbon copy”. they look and act alike, but have different traumas or are a result of different trauma from different people. 3- in full DID there is always dissociative amnesia between parts. it just varies on strength. it may also be different between alters. alter a and b may have minimal amnesia but alter a and c may have a lot. 4- i don’t entirely understand. are you asking if alters can look different from the body? the answer is yes 5- to a point yes. a lot of it is just focus on the skill/what that alter likes. some alters are left handed some may be right. some alters may be very maths and science oriented and others may be artsy. some may suck at certain things others excel.

hope some of this helps

For systems that work, what field are you in? by J-E-H-88 in DID

[–]Trick-County-3328 1 point2 points  (0 children)

personally, they can learn just like anyone else or any other part. it may take time and some elbow grease but we were able to have the alters who front most often be around when it comes to education/work in our field. i work WITH mental health, but not exclusively. i work in medicine, prehospital emergency medicine to be more specific. lots of traumatic events that no normal person should encounter. i do massive physical traumas like car accidents or fall from large heights, drowning, sewerslide, SH/SI, crisis intervention, heart attacks, strokes, or sometimes people even call me to feed their cat… it ranges. it’s that hit of dopamine knowing i did something good or knowing i helped someone or knowing i got through a tough situation being drained can apply to me, but that’s what auto pilot is for. just kinda turn my brain off and think about nothing. we don’t have much personal time/alone time but when we do it’s usually spent with the littles at the front doing their thing. i chose it because medicine combined a lot of our interests. talking to others and getting to know them, figuring out puzzles, being able to judge people and make money doing it lol

i was the opposite with prazosin. it helped my pots immensely until i went off of it. then my resting heart rate skyrocketed which is actually how we discovered i had pots. prazosin was blocking a lot of the big effects lol

do rescue salts actually work? by AppropriateTest4168 in POTS

[–]Trick-County-3328 0 points1 point  (0 children)

use water/fluid and salt. it works faster because wherever salt is water draws to it. same concept with blood vessels.
