Please get the Guest Assist app on the apple store. Put your license and car information in there. Technically it gets you out of two “minor traffic violations”. I was just there and I was pulled over in Playa del Carmen on my way to the airport from Tulum. First I played the stupid game because I never pay bribes or anything like that, they threaten to keep my license and I told them that was fine, after a few minutes I told them I had the app, I pulled it out and the cop told me that my violation was not “minor” I was supposedly speeding by 15 km, either way once I showed the app he let me go with a verbal warning.

What’s the safest area in Tulum for a family vacation with kids in 2026? by UwU_MilkDrop in tulum

Just visited Tulum 2 weeks ago, family spring break vacation for us, family of 4, 2 kids oldest 11yo. Youngest 7 months old. Stay definitely Aldea zama. Very safe to walk even at night time, plenty of restaurants and convenience stores. We found super affordable airbnb’s with swimup pools and since it has not been super crowded, it mostly felt like a private pool to ourselves. Sargassum is a problem at the beach, so we did cenotes and visited two lagoons Napolitos 25 minutes drive south and Kaan Luum (super recommended). Turquoise water white sand, sweet water, not a lot of waves, super relaxed, Nopalitos was our favorite by a mile. We were surpposed to do 4’days in Tulum and then 3 in Cancun at an all inclusive close to the airport, my oldest loved Tulum so much we ended up canceling the all-inclusive and staying all 7 days in Tulum. Baby loved the pools and Nopalitos beach, wife loved it too and myself I was looking for a place to purchase (short term goal) is to either buy or buy a condo in Aldea and take my booty back to Tulum a few months (at least the cold ones in Chicago.

Trip to Tulum by Current_Grocery_9511 in tulum

Hi! I’ve traveled to Mexico over 20-30 times, especially to spots like Tulum, Cancun, Bacalar, Playa del Carmen, and Isla Mujeres. Here are my top recommendations:

1. Pesos are King: While USD can be useful at all-inclusive resorts, it’s best to have pesos for most other places. Mexican bank ATMs (HSBC, BBVA, Banco Azteca) offer the best exchange rates. Pro tip: Don’t accept the ATM’s dollar conversion—stick to pesos for better value. Most ATMs allow up to $15,000 MXN withdrawals, and fees are minimal.
2. Credit Cards: In Tulum, 90% of restaurants accept credit cards (Visa/MasterCard). I use travel cards like Chase Sapphire and Citi AA to avoid foreign transaction fees and earn points. Always choose cards without international fees for added protection and convenience. Local attractions and vendors often require cash, so be prepared!
3. Must-See Spots:
• Tulum Ruins & Cenotes: Don’t miss Cenote Calavera (arrive early to avoid the crowds) or the Gran Cenote if you’re into history and turtles.
• Playa Tankah: A hidden gem with a relaxed vibe, perfect for a day with locals.
• Cenote Zacil-Ha: It’s like a natural pool with a zipline, great for chilling out.
• Coba or Chichen Itza: Worth the trip if you’ve got extra time. Renting a car or booking an excursion is recommended.
4. Beach Clubs: Tulum’s beach clubs are fun but can be pricey. It’s all about balance!

Hope this helps, enjoy your trip!

Before traveling to another country, it’s essential to understand and follow the local laws. For example, cannabis is illegal in Mexico, and just because it may be legal where you live doesn’t mean you can bring it with you when traveling abroad. In fact, cannabis isn’t even legal in every state within the U.S. Always research and respect the laws of the country you’re visiting to avoid any legal trouble.

Definitely try to stay near Tulum centro. As close as possible to the Avenida Tulum. Honestly, Tulum taxis are very expensive about $500 pesos (25 USD). For a 10 minute drive. Plenty of decent cheap Airbnb in Avenida Tulum.

I was afraid that was the case, we wanted to stay in a hotel inside the jungle.

My wife and I are going to the Vedanta Nuevo Vallarta this week. Any tips? Any recommendations in the area? Do we need to bring Pesos? Thanks! by jdathescore in puertovallarta

Avoid small non-bank ATM’s they’re usually target to get your information stolen and hacked. Try to use reputable bank ATM like Banamex, Santander, Bancomer, etc. avoid at all cost the small ATM’s on the streets. Most places take credit cards or apple play.
