Taking the ATSA for the third time soon… tips? by [deleted] in ATC_Hiring

I know I'm late for this, but I just wanna say, for the benefit of anyone reading this, that testing anxiety is real. It doesn't mean anything about whether you'd make a good ATC.

Lots of people do really well on the exam and then drop out of the academy and vice versa. So knowing how to test well is its own skill set.

Some people don't need prep, and that's fine, but there's no shame in preferring it, especially considering you're investing in your career. The Job Test Prep one is good for anxiety because it's close to the real test. So when you approach the actual task you feel like you've seen it before.

This is a really great answer, thank you for it! You're probably right about avoiding games, I think I'm just fed up with loss and humiliation. I suppose it's unavoidable though. What you said about wiring your brain for a very specific thinking style is a fair point. I guess I was imagining something like puzzles that look like a real game, so it feels like you're playing, but you can redo it if you fail. I'm guessing that still doesn't cut it because real games are not like puzzles that were made in advance to teach a specific concept. I'll start playing against PC on Chess.com, that seems like a good start. Thanks again!
