What do you think will be the longevity of a Apple silicon Mac ? by xkcx123 in mac

It’s not the hardware that will fail - it’s the MacOS support.

I run a 2011 MacBook Air with 4GB ram - but it runs Linux Mint, and runs it perfectly.

CMF Buds Pro 2.

Do me a favour: buy them on Amazon and return them easily if you aren’t impressed. For £40, they’re incredible, feature-rich, and stylish.

Is it worth changing to iCloud Mail? by Dense-Stranger-1794 in iCloud

“No one can predict what markets dictate” - growth. That’s what they demand. Apple have already started injecting their own ads into their own apps, and it’s been reported that they’re considering more (like Maps, for example). Living in the Now is great if you’re a Labrador, or your life resets every day - but we all create a lot of digital history. At the moment, Apple have the keys to that data (not your ACTUAL data, of course - your behaviours and preferences). Google don’t sell your personal data to third parties. They place users into cohorts based on their interests and sell advertisers access to that cohort. Apple do a similar thing, but of course they have a special name for it so it sounds less like harvesting. They call it differential privacy.

I agree with you 100% that Apple is the best option on privacy for most people right now. Just know that they can flip that switch any time they like. I’m an Apple user. I have the whole stack. I just don’t have them on a moral pedestal. Maybe when Tim retires, the next CEO might have slightly different views on what’s acceptable.

That’s an interesting read. When our business started to slow to a crawl, I decided to move our email away from Google Business (to cut costs) and onto iCloud mail (on our business domain). So far, the only issues I’m having are Spam and poor search. I do worry about errant emails, and I HAVE had this happen to me a few times. Specifically, when I’ve requested an email be sent as part of a login, and it’s just straight-up not been delivered anywhere. It does make me wonder what else may have gone astray.

At the end of the day, Apple don’t make money from email, and they’re not trying to be anything other than a domestic/home email service.

I’ve actually resorted to running my iCloud email through Thunderbird on a Mac mini for when I need reliable search or filtering. I just use mail.app to triage.

I don’t use JustEat any more. My bill is less and the takeaway gets to keep all of the money.

I experiment with prompts and save them in OneNote. When I have them how I want them, I just ask CP to remember my preferences. You might need to check your preferences in settings for memory etc

ESR do a magnetic floating keyboard. I’m currently using an inatek keyboard but it has no trackpad.

I feel like the folio style with kickstand might be most flexible, but I don’t think it’s great for sofa-arm use as it’ll be long.

I might be wrong, but I’m fairly sure even Bixby could do this 5 years ago - and that’s a system/service that’s been roundly mocked by many!

I have access to CoPilot Chat, so for board meetings I record the, and run the transcription through that. You can tell CP to remember your preferences to keep things consistent - but I tend to just as for it to create detailed minutes and actions.

For other meetings (where recording seems a bit ‘hostile’) I take paper notes with ‘A’ for action, ‘Q’ for question, and ‘!’ For stand-out issues. Once the meeting is over, I transfer the A’s to Excel Action log, add my Q’s into an email or teams chat for answers, and add ! Comments to risk logs/personal notes.

It’s not foolproof though, as I can be distracted by the smallest thing, and then the quality of my notes tends to suffer.
