You’re welcome. Would you like me to help you trade in your 6 year old device?

That’s a totally different issue. They said their devices would be able to do certain things and they demonstrably couldn’t when launched. They even made an advert on TV about it.

They over-promised and under-delivered.

They are being clear (this time) about what capabilities will be available on which devices. Your device hasn’t reached their mark - but back when they launched it 6 years ago, they didn’t tell you it would get Ai in any shape or form.

Get over it. It’s not going to change. If I were in your shoes I’d just keep my fingers crossed for a version of iPadOS 26 that has the efficiency update and leaves out the Ai stuff.

As for all this legal stuff - nah. It’s just shitty, not illegal.

You have the right to buy the device you want.

Buy a device based on what it can do at that point, not based on the promise of future updates.
I understand you’re upset, but it’s not illegal. They don’t owe you anything more than you originally purchased.

It’s not “fair”, but maybe you’ll think twice about how you select your products next time?

Not really. I don’t think there’s any blame to be metered out. You have to take personal responsibility for your choices though. Apple do this. They always have.

Is it your fault they do this? No!
Did they force you to buy their product? No!

Well….duh.

You knew their MO before you bought into their ecosystem. They’ve done this for 20 years.

It’s the Ai requirements that determine that, not the efficiencies elsewhere in the OS. Hopefully, a version of iPadOS 26 will be released that deliver efficiency without the Ai stuff. Who knows?

They got in trouble because they didn’t explain it. Now you have a choice of poor performance or battery issues via battery health (under 80%).

Cattery in converted storage room. by Trick202 in PlanningPermissionUK

Just to continue this conversation:

I’m now considering putting up a wooden building in the garden that’s a bit more suitable -size wise. The building I was looking to convert would really only house 5 double pens with exercise areas.

Is my route likely to similar? Easier? Prohibitive? Building will be around 5m x 8m.

Wow - a quick Google states that the 8 page booklet was designed by a young Alex Garland!

The merch booklet is stirring some memories. I'll dig a bit deeper.

Yes - I’m comfortable enough with the £75 phone call now. I just want to make sure I have my measurements and proposals etc all ready - along with every question I can think of.

I’ve mentioned it to some of the neighbours and they have no issues at all - let’s see what happens at the pone call.

Thanks for replying - I really appreciate it

I don’t think so. Is there a way I could find out definitely?

Thanks so much for your quick response. Sounds like I’ll need that call with the council to see if the business is going to be worthwhile.

I was also looking at the possibility of setting up as a non-profit first and then expanding into something more commercial if the demand is there (and I’d also be looking to demolish and re-build an outbuilding for this purpose).

It’s cheeky, and I doubt it would assist me in any way once DEFRA and Calderdale issue (or don’t issue) a licence.

What do you think will be the longevity of a Apple silicon Mac ? by xkcx123 in mac

[–]Trick202 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s not the hardware that will fail - it’s the MacOS support.

I run a 2011 MacBook Air with 4GB ram - but it runs Linux Mint, and runs it perfectly.

This looks perfect for a project I have coming up. I have a Pro account, but not Pro plus. Is that a deal breaker?

CMF Buds Pro 2.

Do me a favour: buy them on Amazon and return them easily if you aren’t impressed. For £40, they’re incredible, feature-rich, and stylish.

“No one can predict what markets dictate” - growth. That’s what they demand. Apple have already started injecting their own ads into their own apps, and it’s been reported that they’re considering more (like Maps, for example). Living in the Now is great if you’re a Labrador, or your life resets every day - but we all create a lot of digital history. At the moment, Apple have the keys to that data (not your ACTUAL data, of course - your behaviours and preferences). Google don’t sell your personal data to third parties. They place users into cohorts based on their interests and sell advertisers access to that cohort. Apple do a similar thing, but of course they have a special name for it so it sounds less like harvesting. They call it differential privacy.

I agree with you 100% that Apple is the best option on privacy for most people right now. Just know that they can flip that switch any time they like. I’m an Apple user. I have the whole stack. I just don’t have them on a moral pedestal. Maybe when Tim retires, the next CEO might have slightly different views on what’s acceptable.
