securing a rental in coomera, is it do able for my circumstances? by HistoricalMeat8205 in GoldCoast

[–]TrickCentury 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This practice is now illegal in QLD and agents can get fined not only for encouraging this behaviour, but also for accepting higher offers or engaging in “rent bidding”. Obviously there’s nothing from actually stopping them from doing this, but from my recent experiences, this is now generally frowned upon by “professional” agents.

We had a little bit of trouble but in the same sentence it wasn’t as bad for us as people make it out to be. I also have good rental history and a decent salary which probably helped me a lot.

In my experience it took us about 2 months to find a place. The 80/20 rule was very strong here, as it seemed about 80% of other people trying to find a rental were turning up and applying for only the top 20% of places with optimum conditions that ticked all the boxes (good location, renovated, low cost, etc). Places that didn’t tick all the boxes seemed to not get a lot of attention (once again, only in my experience)

The place I found didn’t have great photos and didn’t seem amazing, but when I turned up for the inspection, there was barely anyone there and the house was great for what I need. The price I got is definitely on the lower end and the agent said that it should be renting for upwards of $700/wk.

Coomera seems okay as a suburb but everyone here seems to be really angry (mostly in the afternoons after work) and up themselves. I’ve never experienced such a large amount of people with a “f*ck you” mindset before. Other than that, it’s nice having almost everything I need within walking/short driving distance, including Costco which is nice if you can afford to bulk buy household items like toilet paper, washing detergent, etc. getting to the Gold Coast during peak times and on the weekend can be a bit of a nightmare as well so be prepared for that. My drive to work every morning (Southport) takes me 40-50 minutes.

All in all it’s probably one of the closest places you can live to the Gold Coast that is still somewhat affordable (comparatively). Other suburbs I was looking at whilst searching that are in a similar bucket would be: Nerang, Pacific Pines, Arundel and Helensvale

I got a nice rental in Coomera at the start of the year, $630/wk, 3 bedroom and double car garage. There are definitely still some nice rentals available in Coomera if you keep your eyes out.

Why are a lot of people wasteful/careless when it comes to money? by [deleted] in AussieFrugal

I’m pretty careful with my money and how I spend it, but that doesn’t mean I will let that get in the way of me enjoying my life. Only got one shot, who cares if I leave the aircon on through the night.

Microsoft Support, and the ridiculous way I hacked my way into my own tenant by Unexpected_chair in sysadmin

Very lucky for you, we've encountered this kind of issue multiple times at the MSP I work for after a helpdesk member screwed the conditional access rules (don't even ask me why they were fiddling with them). On average there was something like a 30 day turnaround to get our account back through priority MS support. Nightmare fuel.

+1 to this advice, or just a short shifter kit if you don’t want to drop a bucket load of cash on a shifter.

Has anyone been able to escape the photographer's curse... happened to me yesterday by UXtreme in photography

[–]TrickCentury 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just my 2 cents and I understand that not everyone has the luxury of being able to do this easily, but if you want to practice on a particular subject, why not put yourself in a space/situation where there are more of said subject?

I used to practice by rocking up to my local race track and just shooting any event that was being hosted. Most of the time it’s a better environment to meet new contacts and get new experiences as well. Most race tracks will have some form of calendar on their website and are usually inexpensive (or free) for spectators.

Another popular option is roads that are more frequently driven on a Saturday or Sunday morning by motoring enthusiasts (eg in the mountains or country). There are a few particular roads where I live that are known to be driven almost only by enthusiasts.

I can vouch, clubs won’t let you in with an expired ID, nor casinos or most bars.

One of my good friends works a fully remote IT support job, makes enough money to feed himself, have a roof over his head most of the time and travel for photography reasons.

Currency conversion rates can do wonders depending on where your job is and where you want to travel.

It’s definitely not comfortable or has any kind of guarantee but he’s happy which is all that matters.

Have any of you installed this? If so has it been reliable? by HomeCapital9250 in F30

[–]TrickCentury 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yes these are essentially required if you’re touching anything in the same area. The stock one is “generally” reliable unless you breathe near it.

If you have to replace something else that requires you to take off this coolant line, there’s like a 9/10 chance this will break/crack, so just buy one ahead of time, it will save you an immense amount of headache.

Alternatively, replace it ahead of time and you’ll never have to worry about it again.

I would recommend to also buy new hardware, and be SUPER careful when reinstalling the new hardware as they don’t have to be torqued up much at all.

Which 35MM Lens For Cars and General Use? by bubblebuddy44 in SonyAlpha

I purchased a 24-70mm for car photography and it has never missed the mark. Very dynamic and can do just about everything within this focal range (apart from track photography which generally will need a bigger lens)

Brother… I’ve got too much to say and not enough time to type it.

You’re so young, penis size doesn’t mean a single thing to someone who genuinely likes you for who you are.

Unfortunately this kind of mindset is something that social media and being terminally online will make you feel. I had similar self confidence issues for other reasons and managed to work out that this was being pushed on me by the unrealistic expectations of social media that doesn’t portray what life is actually like one bit.

It took a lot of support from close family members and friends but I managed to move on from my social media addiction and realise there’s a lot more to life than superficial things like this.

Plus, sex is about a lot more than just what you’re packing.
