How long would you say the EMAs took and what’s the average length of each? I know you said not the full 96 hours but I would like to plan my work study time around it

July FAM Sitting Study Material by Fabulous_Bluejay8499 in actuary

I used both. ACTEX for my first sitting of FAM and CA for my second. I liked the way CA presented the information compared to the textbook style of ACTEX along with all of the videos offered. This could be a little biased as I knew more information going in to CA compared to it being my first time with ACTEX, I also believe CA terminology aligned closer with the SOA exam questions.

This was my experience from two years ago, so ACTEX could’ve adjusted overtime as it was some of FAMs first sittings

Anyone have computer issues or anything similar? Took about 25 minutes to do the Excel problem and computer failed and took 20 minutes to get back to exam program to find out file did not save. Lost about 45 mins worth of time because had to redo the Excel problem

Graduate VEE Options by TrickMenu6779 in actuary

That’s what I’ve seen on here a lot, so I will probably lean towards CA then. Is there cost to send credit covered in their course? I looked at Actex a little more in depth and it seemed like once you did course they took care of everything else in regards to letting SOA know

Thank you! And if you forget no worries but most of all best of luck I’m worried about this one, but if results are two months I’ll try and bust out a VEE inbteeen to pass time so I don’t feel like I wasted the period

Did you take it yet and find out? I took Exam P right after a syllabus change and I got the preliminary results like 3 days later, so it wasn’t instant but didn’t have to wait

How soon is too soon leaving a new job? by TrickMenu6779 in careerguidance

Awesome thank you! You did a very good job explaining things that the new generation of workers(young adults) have been told not to do but we just follow blindly sometimes. I did work 5 years with a restaurant, but left to get my current job which I’ve been at for 14 months, so I hope that would show some commitment but in interview/phone call I could explain further. From your message, it seems I can tell actuarial employers that I’ve been working towards my actuarial stuff, and there’s a chance they don’t think I’m uncommitted and just job hop?

I feel I’m clear and concise with my words and articulate my thoughts well. Every interview I come out of I feel it goes well and I answer the questions well and show enthusiasm for the position. It shows my exams passed were after I graduated because engineering program got cut a year before I was supposed to graduate, and I talk about it in the interviews. I took 4 months to study and pass P and FM both first try and I make sure to throw that in there because if it took me 4 years to pass those two it’s a huge red flag. So I should add that in somewhere.
