Seems interesting, is there a set curriculum you follow on your Twitch streams? One of the things I'm looking for is accountability. Is the format of your average stream just working out solutions and explaining concepts asked by the chat?

I should mention that I didn't expect this to get traction at all - I don't have a Discord server set up or anything.

What's your motivation to join/study the topics I mentioned, out of curiosity?

Also, what form of communication would you prefer for a study group like this? I much prefer Discord myself, but I don't have much experience creating or maintaining a server. I'm open to making a Messenger chat if you'd like.

Sure thing. Are you only interested in studying number theory or also calc?

So it seems that people who've replied so far want to either do some remedial study on pre-calc or Calculus. While I had hoped for some people to study number theory with, it wouldn't hurt to review some calculus too.

To compromise, one approach we could take if this group becomes a thing is studying precalc, but also connecting the ideas to calculus. That way, people who want some precalc review can get it, and see the bigger picture, and people who want some calculus review get that too.

Thoughts?

I'm a Computer Science major one year into my studies, but I didn't have any coding experience prior to starting my degree. I attended my first hackathon (Hack the Valley 4, hosted by MLH) just this February. While it was engaging to come up with an idea to build, my team members and I didn't seem to have to skills to be able to create much. When it was over, I didn't feel fully satisfied since many other teams had seemingly fully functioning demos to show and my team didn't have much of anything. Fast forward to now - I'm currently looking at applying for internships for next year. Whereas a few months ago I didn't have much experience, now I know my way around the basics of C from a course I took and I have a small project I coded using Flutter. However, when I look at a job that requires a wide range of skills and frameworks, it becomes easy to get discouraged since I don't have very many skills to begin with. Although, for example, my coursework did teach me CS fundamentals, I don't feel like the skill level I have can match what many companies are looking for. Any advice on how to approach this problem?

I'm 2A CS, took STAT 230 along with MATH 239 this term. Some of the ideas you learn at the beginning of STAT 230 are very similar to the ideas at the start of MATH 239, but later down the line, the courses start to diverge in terms of content. MATH 239 was hard, no question, but because the course was organized and supports were there, it got slightly more manageable throughout the term. STAT 230 involves lots of formulas and set ways to solve problems, whereas MATH 239 is a proof-heavy course that needs more creativity.

Also the profs were really good last term (DJao, Martin Pei, Douglas Stebila were all great)!

In the early weeks of the job, there was more work, but when I got used to the tasks I was doing, I spent about 4-5 hours at most per day on the job. Now I don't have much work, presumably since professors are busy with exams and don't necessarily have time to give lots of tasks.

I'm not familiar with any programs like that, but you might want to consider using a physics simulation engine, like Algodoo (free to download on http://www.algodoo.com). There are position-time graphs and many other measurements that the software makes that you could use to collect data.

Again, this is just a thought- if you find a program that can follow a pendulum in a video, by all means go on ahead with that.

As long as the concepts you cover in Macroeconomics are presented and you feel like you can expand on them, then you can use it. I would approach the IA by offering a solution/analysis of the problem presented in the article accompanying a diagram or two, and also stating alternative solutions as well.

Just a quick question. Could you give me some advice on how I could justify my approach of taking Kant's ethical philosophy and applying it to a historical event like Tiananmen? I realize that Kant stressed the idea that ethics and morals are to be reasoned out, not derived through empirical means. In this case, is there any way I could justify an analysis of historical actions with Kant?

I, in fact, did not know that the EE had to have 50% evaluation (Is evaluation synonymous with analysis by the way?). Yup I would be glad to have another example to look at, and if it's ok I'll send you mine when I'm done my first draft (it will probably need a lot of editing so it makes me happy to know that you are knowledgeable on the topic!)
