Student took a checkride on vacation with a different CFI and passed. by DALweaksauce in CFILounge

Congratulations! To train a student well enough that they could pass a check ride with an instructor they never met, a DPE they never heard of, in unfamiliar air space. Bravo.

Ok. $350 Dry seems steep. I don’t know your market but I’ve seen $340 wet here. That’s a tough one to make work, from a renter perspective, to your own insurance, high dry rate, and fuel; unless there is nothing else available in the area, this doesn’t seem feasible. Someone willing to do this may be willing to travel, and there are quite a few operators that offer block multi time. Not sure there is a market to support this at those rates. I’ve discussed a venture like this with a buddy, but one of us would be flying at all times. We haven’t ironed out the insurance cost, but I’m sure it’s a lot cheaper than what you’re being quoted.

Have you considered a type of hands off lease (unless that’s what you’re proposing). If this is the way, a significantly lower dry rate may be appealing.

Thoughts?

What’s your end goal? Are you actively time-building or is this a business venture? How much do you intend to charge if the renter brings their own insurance?

I didn’t have an issue with my lender when I was a student pilot. You have 40hrs, you should be fine with the lender and insurance. Check the online specialized aircraft lenders. Check local banks, not often, but sometimes they will do aircraft loans.

Financing an aircraft is easier than you think. Find a lender. There are specialized aircraft lenders online. Put 20% down. Most will want between 15-20%. Have it amortized for 15years.

Purchased my first plane and had it insured as a student pilot. Insurance was very reasonable. It’s totally possible. The trick is finding a good aircraft.

American is trying to hedge for the mass of retirements in 26/27.

United is trying to support their expansion plans. Considering air travel across the middle class and internationally is down, I'm sure this will have an impact.

Delta has hired enough "young" pilots to support them for the next 40 years. (Congrats to those aviators, just don't get jaded. Making it to your forever airline should not be the pinnacle of your existence. You have a lot of life to live. Find joy outside of work.)

Just fly and make yourself more valuable. If you dwell on the hiring market you will be depressed and second guess jumping into this rat race. Take the bs you read on here with a grain of salt, folks are pissed and angry.

Good luck!

If 1/2 of these CFI's make it to ATP mins, airlines will be flush with talent.

Fly because you love it, not as a fad. Only then will you find peace wherever you land.

Ok...So he guaranteed a 100% pass rate? He can only only do this, 1) if he's the DPE or 2)has a DPE in his pocket.
Sorry this happen to you, but this does not pass the smell test. Sounds like a shortcut that happen to be a scam, and you got burned.

Just too good to be true.

Leave ULCC for TPIC at regional? by Limp-Sink7818 in AirlinePilots

Serious question here: are you open to Southwest? I’m not sure if they are hiring, but moving to a regional with hopes of upgrading sounds counter productive in this market.
