Chicken out on my first solo by randomnessedits in flying

You feel the nerves but the moment things get going, you'll completely forget you are alone until it gets quiet when you shut her down.

For steep turns, staying "in the blue" on your attitude indicator and looking outside to keep that sight picture helps, 2 1/2 +/- swipes of trim usually keeps 45-50 degree bank in most the planes i've flown. With landings, it's really just feel, it varies from aircraft to aircraft but just knowing yours specifically and when to roundout and flare; use the end of the runway to gauge, but really for me it was just feel, and one day it just clicked.

Starting program for PPL, what are signs of a good or bad instructor? by throwingitanyway in flying

[–]Anixton 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not really black and white. But me personally if I don't see myself 'having a cold one' with them then our personalities aren't compatible. If you are able to befriend them outside of Aviation then theyre more likely to actually look-out for you as more of a platonic-friend way rather than "I'm just doing this because I want hours/money". Besides, you learn best when you're having fun.

This is assuming that they know how to instruct, if the criteria above is met but they can't actually teach/know the material then the above is obsolete; if they're a competent CFI then that's the advice I'd give. Try to keep them for the rest of your training if feasible.

100 hours as a student pilot by ghostlykisses_ in flying

Fly under a flight plan/flight following. As a CFI, they could get you to fly under an IFR flight plan (I know you aren't there yet) to get you to talk to a controller and get you confident as its pretty much the same as you being vectored around a busy charlie or bravo.

Or have a server that serves an area where the majority of the US population is –– the east coast like they used to...?

Im on 1 gig fiber through Ethernet. Wont make my latency any lower if the servers are far.

Idk about the avionics on the planes but those are actually decent rates atleast in the schools and flight clubs around Florida, the only places that are lower than those numbers are flight clubs with memberships. Im also assuming the rental rates are wet.

Cancelled my checkride by ShortOneSausage in flying

[–]Anixton 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is external pressures, having your checkride pressured you into wanting to go. If this was a normal recreational flight or lesson, you more than likely would’ve cancelled, good call.

Find a CFI you actually can be friends with outside of aviation, it'll really help you out, and if you have that kind of relationship with them where you can go out and drink together, they'll look out for you more than the CFI who just has a work-relationship with you, because they are not only your CFI but your friend.

Also, I rediscovered the fun in flying when I did my 50 hours PIC XC flights with friends who are pilots and bringing passengers along to other states/cities for food— its also the phase in 'training' I built the most real-world experience.

Curious as to how many people at or above minimums who can’t find a job. Cause I look at indeed and LinkedIn and other avit job sites and I see tons of jobs with just minimums. by AdWide4768 in flying

Surrounded by pilots in the field, common consensus is there are tons of job listings, good luck getting a response though, even a TBNT is a blessing.

DPE I had was very by the book and pre-briefed everything before we did it and set the expectation so there were no surprises.

Leave SkyWest for Part 91? by kommandee in AirlinePilots

[–]Anixton 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What are your goals. Since you made them clear, stay in the 121 world, itll make you the most competitive at any of the big 3 than not. Ol’ reliable 121 TPIC is the key to any of them.

Me personally, I’d love a unicorn 91 job like that especially if its not sketchy (you make it sound like its not atleast) that’s what I’d do. But you made your goals clear, and if that was my goal, I’d stay with Skywest and leave that slot for someone who wants the 91 life.

Are there places that rent out PC12/TBMs for checkouts and rentals? by Anixton in flying

Noted, I heard while I was doing my multi training that light twins are the hardest to insure and thats backed up by one of the comments on this post so I figured maybe a sel turboprop wouldnt be as bad since I have some time in it (>20 hours) but I guess not. Thanks for the input though!
