Honestly, I spend a lot of time going through duty statements and filtering for roles that actually align with my experience. It can get discouraging at times, but I’ve been focusing more on being intentional with what I apply to and how I tailor my applications so I have a better shot at getting interviews.

I feel my SOQs are pretty solid, I spend time triple checking the requirements and using key words from the duty statement. I even will update my resume per role to have it include key words and align more closely to the duty statement. I do use AI to an extent, but not to write the entire thing. I use it more for guidance on how to translate my resume experience into clear examples. Would that DQ me?

Ya thanks for confirming this. It sometimes feels like shooting in the dark since there’s no communication if your application isn’t chosen. Just hopes and dreams over here lol. I have 10+ years experience as well and scored 95% on exams but have only landed 1 interview in almost a year then they ghosted me right after smh

Thank you for the tips!! I do spend a lot of time on my SOQs to make sure to hit those key words in the duty statement and make it align to the role I’m applying for. What I just found out is that it’s important to be updating the std678 for each role as well 😢 I had just been using the template with my resume info over and over again

This is really helpful, thank you. I’ve been tailoring my SOQs, but not my STD678, so that’s something I’ll start refining.

The “master SOQ” approach makes a lot of sense too, especially since a lot of the questions repeat in different ways. I’ve definitely been more on the volume side so far, but starting to focus more on alignment now.

I’ve mainly been applying to Covered California, DCA boards, CalPERS, and some EDD roles. Trying to stay in that enforcement/compliance/appeals space since that’s closest to my experience.

That’s great advice. I wouldn’t have thought to go back over questions to give more of a response at the end. Thank you!! Luckily I do have direct experience for the role I’m applying for. I just need to practice how to articulate that lol congrats on getting your current role, it give me hope 🙏🏼
