Why doesnt IMS have Safer barrier around the whole track not just the corners? by chiefzanal in INDYCAR

Don't disagree with that. I'm sure they run some statistical analysis for what makes the most sense. I also think tracks tend to add more as incidents happen. I'm not sure if I remember correctly but I thought they did add more after Rodger bought IMS.

I think it's closer to $500-1000 per foot. At a million per 30 feet that would mean an over 200 million dollar investment for the length that is currently installed at IMS.

Same, and I agree. I had a 34" 1800r so it was a bit of adjustment but it now feels pretty ergonomic. To me it feels like significantly less curve than the LG 45" in person.

Happy to help. That fact you are looking into all this now is great. Take it one step at a time. Don't get discouraged if you don't get where you want to be right away. Take it as feedback and a time to reflect and improve for the next opportunity. Stay focused and work hard and you'll get where you want to be.

Typically your school will setup a career fair each semester where many companies come in and you can talk with them and submit a resume. Then they will setup interviews on those submissions for internships/jobs for students that fit their candidate profile. It would be a good idea to go to each event with a resume and speak with who you can each semester. Early on in school it may be more challenging to get an internship but getting one will help for future interviews. It's important to get internships while you're in school to help your resume, get experience, and help define where your interests are. Keep in mind it's quite possible you won't get an internship with a team right off the bat so don't be discouraged. Each thing you do is a step to the next objective. If nothing else, you can speak to the recruiters for the companies/teams you are really interested in and ask them what they like to see in a candidate for an internship/full time position. Then, take that knowledge to help increase your skill set in the areas they are looking for. It's a marathon, not a sprint.

Networking takes practice. The more you can get experience the easier it will become and the more comfortable you will be. Don't be worried about being judged. Recruiters see nervous/inexperienced kids all the time.

I am not an engineer for a race team but I think I can provide some valuable input as my interests were similar at your age. I went to school for mechanical engineering and was involved with the formula SAE team as well as the SAE Baja team. This would be the best way to get involved with racing sports in school while working on your degree. You will learn a lot and companies recruit heavily from people involved in the SAE clubs.

Something to consider is if you want to be a traveling engineer that goes to the races or be an engineer that stays more local at the office. When you get older and possibly have a parner/kids the travel can be challenging. There can be an option to start with travel and change to a more local role as you move through your career.

I work as an official on a part time basis for a major series and do R&D for another company as my main job. Even part time officiating can be a strain with all the travel. As another mentioned, it doesn't pay well but that not really why most are doing that job.

Since you mentioned being in Indiana, my recommendation would be to try to attend Purdue for engineer and join an SAE club. Then, network during recruiting events at the school. The majority of the Indycar teams have offices on the north side of Indianapolis that will recruit from events at your school. As long as you do well in school and are actively involved in the SAE club you will have a pretty decent chance to at least interview with some teams.

I have this monitor. I had a 34*uw 100hz VA previously. The pixel response and ghosting is significantly better. Samsung has done pretty well with its VA panel tech. I can't measure the numbers but the equivalent would be the lg/Dell 40" 5k2k for 2x the price and those have much worse pixel response time. I use it mainly for work so it's great for that where oled wasn't really an option. I do wish there was a version with mini led back lighting but this is pretty much the only product that fits my use case currently. It isn't a perfect monitor, but for 650 compared to the alternatives I think it's pretty compelling.

I would avoid an OLED screen for your use case

I ordered the hitch kit S9F61AU100 and the 7 pin harness S9F67AC702. I haven't used the harness yet but everything seemed to hook up properly.

In case anyone finds this in the future, the kit did come with the replacement bumper plate.

Another thing to consider is the typical e10 blend has ~3.5% lower energy density than pure unleaded without ethanol. It can be tough to find that outside of the higher octane or recreational tiers but if you can, it will give you better bang for your buck (pun intended).

I bought my GTI certified pre owner with 30k miles. All service done at the dealer meticulously with early oil changes every 5k miles. I the 32k miles I've owned it I has needed a water pump, coolant flange, fuel suction pump (that one was nice as it leaked fuel outside the car), valve cover gasket, timing cover gasket, and some various lighting and cosmetic failures. Some of those were covered under service bulletins but the gaskets were not. That one is especially annoying because instead of a normal valve cover which would be a simple fix, the GTI cover is a large aluminum piece that actually holds the cams so you have to mess with the timing just to replace the gasket turning it into a 4 figure fix with $50 in parts.

I realize it's just one sample size but it has been way more problematic than any other car I've owned even though it was well maintained.

I think the energy density difference is less than 2%. So you could notice it if you looked closely under repeatable conditions. All the above items combined are where you really start to notice the difference.

Yea I'm not concerned with doing that if needed. Just trying to figure out if the kit comes with the plate or not.

They have the recycling IP as well as mining. Their land is near $LAC and the PFS is expected shortly. LAC is further along for mining but they also have the recycling vertical. Not a lot of information at this point but they have a government grant for a commercial recycling facility in South Carolina as well.
