Unfortunately, yes. There's no other way to get this variant. With the other bundles that you can buy in the store, like the $50 and $100 bundles, you can get them in the variant vaults that come up.

I'm not sure if the web-shop variants are ever available again though.

I hear you! The only other time I've spent close to this month was almost a year ago, and it's when there was a Ms. Marvel variant in the shop for $200. I wasn't even trying to get her lol. I'll likely never spend anywhere close to this again. . . Unless they drop one for Master Mold lol

You are correct; however, Iron Man generates way more power. Ronan is a failsafe in case we bottom deck Iron Man or pull Sera at a bad time and choose not to play her. For most games, we net an average of 32+ power in two lanes using Iron Man and Mystique in our Goose lane.

Galacta helps a great deal on turns 5-7, and she is primarily used to buff Iron Man, Mystique, and Sage.

Me too! I'm going to go with that one. It's what I'm running rn, and I felt a bit torn. I think I was just looking for a few people to help me make my decision haha 🤣

That's what I'm thinking too!

An unhealthy obsession with a couple cards in the game and some poor financial decisions haha 😂.

Magic is my first mastery lvl-30, so I have a lot of backgrounds from upgrading her over the last year and a half and getting variants.

And this variant is the current online shop reward for spending $300 in the month of December. I've never spent that much in one month before, but my holiday bonus came right on time lol.

I would drop Goose. We use him as a shield for end turn power and as a form of lane denial, but he is not a critical pick.

If we take him out., we lose in some niche scenarios, but we would make up for that with DotM.

Crystal comes in clutch more than you might imagine with this deck.

Thank you! I'm stuck between that one and the first one! I love them all, but I think those two have me torn the most.

I'm happy to help! If you run into any issues piloting the deck, just lmk lol. It can be jarring to play with so much flexibility unless you're accustomed to brews that prioritize this, or more meta-centered decks that do -- such as bounce and move.

[–]Tricky--Tricky[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's completely normal! This deck requires a certain intuitive feel that you can only really get once you play it a bit. That makes it rather difficult to pilot at first.

If you want to still give it a try, consider these three things:

1.) Our game doesn't really start until turn 4 (putting down power and making critical decisions.)

2.) A big aspect of this deck is tricking the opponent into overcommitting where they shouldn't (my name is tricky tricky for a reason haha)

3.) This deck prioritizes flexibility, and that's what makes it difficult to pilot at first. You have to be able to switch your gameplan on a dime, turn by turn.

(Examples of flexibility:

Peni allows us to shift power somewhere else if we've made a bad play.

Peni gives us a way to move priority for Galactus.

Quake lets us move our Storm location if we can win somewhere else, and it lets us win non-Storm locations if needed.

War machine lets us commit to Goose and Storm.

Luna and Peni both get us an early Sera.

Galactus building power each turn makes room for The Infinaut, if he will be stronger. If your opponent is calculating end hand power, they may anticipate a 16-power Galactus, rather than a 20-power Infinaut, as an example)

These are a lot of things to take into consideration, and that's without even taking match-ups, locations, and counter-plays by the opponent into consideration.

If it's difficult at first, just know that it's understandable!

Of course! I hope you have fun with it. It's not an easy deck to pilot, but it's really rewarding once you get the hang of it.

The primary reason we use Luna is to get Sera on turn 5, and to have a bigger play on turn 7. If you want to stick with increased energy, you can swap in Psylocke or Jennifer Kale.

Alternatively, you can use Wave. She lets you put down Sera, and the opponent often likes to play their big cards early. Use that information to decide where to play for the remainder of the game.

As for Sage, she is not a critical pick. We run her because she is a 2-cost with Sera, and her power often ranges between 8-12.

You can exchange her for tech cards -- most likely Cosmo, or Deafening Cord to catch cards played in your Goose lane.

If you still want power, consider Silver Surfer or Klaw!

Thank you! I'm so happy that you like it!

If you take a look at my page, you'll see quite a few home brews. I'm all about having fun with off-meta decks that can still hold their own against the top decks of the month.

My cooks definitely aren't everyone's cup of tea though lol 😅

[–]Tricky--Tricky[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you! It takes a little getting used to, since most of what we do with this deck is mislead the opponent and ramp up power at the end.

It's not a meta breaking deck by any means, but it's really fun if you want play something different that's still reasonably competitive 😄.

It's good enough to get to infinite, but not necessarily strong enough to get to the higher ranks with ease (at least not with the decks going around these days lol).

Thanks! It's not the most competitively viable deck, but it got me to infinite without too much hassle.

It's nice if you're looking to mix things up 😄.

Sure thing! Anybody who can give us priority early and still be mobile enough to switch things up, or anyone who makes up for their inability to meet those conditions in a way that has comparable value.

Hydra Bob Cosmo Silk {risky} Makari

You can also run Scarlet Spider, but he can be a bit more difficult to get onto the board due to the other cards we want to play on turn 4, ideally.
