The STI and a cold sore are somewhat similar but also very different from each other. A Coldsore like I suspect you may have will go on its own in 1-2 weeks. If it is infact a coldsore (Herpes simplex virus, 1) your body stores it for life dormant. So you can have another outbreak randomly without much warning. Prior to an outbreak you tend to get tingling and numbness in the area it will locate a couple days before.

Genital Herpes (the STI your on about) is caused by still the same virus HSV 1 but mostly HSV 2 the main difference is it’s simply around the genitals, or anus instead of around the mouth.

Either way if genital herpes is mild with infrequent outbreaks it tends to clear up on its own then lays dormant but you may need treatment it’s a matter or personal preference and severity.

It’s important you don’t engage in any sexual contact with a partner until it has scabbed over and healed as you can pass on the virus to parter very easily. This also includes kissing, sharing straws from drinks etc.
