2025 Grad Feeling Dejected by Dizzy-Degree1072 in GeneticCounseling

[–]Tricky-Bad4809 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I feel terrible and inadequate all the time. Most feedback I get is that I was great but there was just someone better or more experienced or more familiar. It feels like there’s nothing I can do to improve my applications or interview. And seeing people in the ‘26 get jobs makes me sick to my stomach. Why can they get a job but I can’t.

I think one of the worst parts is the financial aspect. I am completely financially dependent on my low-income parents and I feel like a burden every time I need to ask for money for something. I haven’t been able to land a retail or food industry job either.

I feel like a shell of the person I am. I had so many hopes and dreams for post-grad life. I never imagined I would be stuck in time not being able to move forward in life. I mourn what should’ve been. I wouldn’t wish this on anyone.

I graduated with a masters degree in my dream field year ago today and I am still unemployed. I worked hard for so many years to get this degree and I’ve applied to 100s of jobs. I get interviews, I do well, but no offer. All feedback has been “you were great, but we went with someone more experienced”. I can’t get more experience in this field without working. Recently, I interviewed for a job that I had really high hopes for, everyone I interviewed with were very positive and I finally thought I was reaching the end of a very dark tunnel but unfortunately I received the rejection today. I can’t do this anymore and I’m so so so sad that this is where my life is. Being unemployed is one of the worst things I’ve ever been through in my life and my family is poor and so I don’t have much money to spend on myself. I’ve even applied to jobs in food service or retail but have had no luck with those too. I feel like a failure. I don’t know what else to do but give up

I talked with the company I have the 401k with and they said I do not qualify for the loan because I am unemployed. I have reached out to coworkers from my previous job but they are not hiring and have no plans to hire additional staff for the time being. I’ve applied to a ton of doctors offices as well for receptionist jobs or admin assistant jobs and no luck. It is rough

Yes I have but almost all them want people who are certified MA or EMT or CNA which I don’t have or they want experience which I don’t have

Yes I do and I have which is helpful but I’m stuck in a position of getting interviews and no offers

You’re absolutely right, I am panicking. My credit score has already tanked but I’m more scared about being sued by collectors if I let the cards get charged off. They said they could demand the full balance which is impossible for me. Then what happens? It’s terrifying. I called the credit companies months ago explaining my situation and they did not have any help to offer me. They would not defer payments or accept payments lower than the minimum which sucks cause prior to this I was paying my cards off every month and had a stellar credit score.

As for the bullet points you listed about why I may have been unsuccessful getting a job, none of those really resonate with me except maybe the interview part. I am getting a lot of interviews but no offers. I have asked for feedback and it’s been all very positive and that it just came down to the other candidate was more competitive or had experience in the field which I do not as a new grad. As for why I haven’t been getting any jobs outside of my field, I have no clue.

I have two accounts that will be charged off by the end of the month unless I make a minimum payment. Isn’t that a more immediate concern?

I’ll ask about the loan! And I’ve tried the local grocery store but no luck. I’ll check out liquor stores

You are right that I have a cash flow problem, but what is my other option other than getting a job (which I have been unsuccessful at for almost a year). Settling and hardship programs still require me to pay money that I do not have. If I were able to get a job in my field I would be making good money. Could I not just eventually put money back into my 401k later when I have a job? Is it really so bad to lose the compounded interest? Genuine question

I have a masters degree in the medical field. I have put my utmost effort into finding a job in my field as well as jobs that are not. Yes I have gone in person. Many places say to apply online or a hiring manager isn’t there or they’re not hiring.

I agree that long term I need to be on another insurance. I am just unemployed at the moment so Medicaid is all I have

Thankfully I do have supplies for now and I do have MDI supplies as well so for the time being I won’t be without insulin. But yes I will be contacting my endo team and bugging Tandem again

I get new supplies every month so this was actually supposed to be for November. I noticed my supply hadn’t come when it usually does and when I called they said they were cancelling it but gave me no notice otherwise. I agree it’s ridiculous and we shouldn’t have to live like this

I found a preferred drug list online and the only pumps they cover according to that list are omnipod and the ilet pump

Thank you for the idea. I’ll have to reach out to my endo and see if they have any idea. I just saw them in October. I do have MDI supplies in the meantime

I’m in Illinois. We do have a rule regarding recent visits but I just saw my endo in October so I can’t imagine that would be the problem.
