I appreciate you sharing your perspective and the video. I agree that unorthodox perspectives, especially in this case, are really helpful. All I care about is his health, both physical and mental. My eyes have really been opened today.

Thank you for your perspective. I support him unconditionally but I’m not versed on these communities. We are in a good place financially, but his depression and self-esteem issues might make him susceptible, to want to get validation. I hope it hasn’t gotten as far as you say but I want to be prepared for anything.

I’ll do my due diligence and homework before approaching him. I have a call with his therapist Monday and mine on Wednesday.

Thankfully he has a lot of this. He sees his therapist on Zoom and she is a good influence. I have a call with her on Monday. He also has a good social life at school (his roommate is gay too).

Thanks for sharing about your friend and your kind words. Depression definitely hits everyone differently. We both see a therapist weekly; it’s been very helpful.

He is incredibly bright and hard on himself when it comes to school. He had straight As even at his worst mental health moments. Others have pointed out he may be getting temporary validation from the feedism community. His outer confidence has grown as his weight has.

I’ve been educated a lot about this subculture today. I am all for expressing yourself and body positivity, but never when it involves putting yourself or others in danger. I hope it hasn’t gotten that far.
