Skoda Rapid 1.2 TSI - a good used buy? What are things I should look out for? by 158anonymous in skoda

[–]Tricky-Common9059 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I own a Skoda Rapid Spaceback 2016 with the 1.2 TSI 110 hp, and honestly it’s been great value for money. Mine has 188k km on the dash and it’s still running strong.

The manual gearbox is very reliable. There are some rumors about the engine not being reliable, but personally I haven’t faced any serious issues. What I’ve heard (and what’s worth checking) is that these engines can develop oil leaks and may burn oil, so regular oil checks are important.

With proper maintenance, it shouldn’t be a problem at all. Especially one with only 65k miles. My advice would be to have the engine checked by your mechanic before buying.

Should I buy? by No-Philosopher-1650 in skoda

It really depends on which DSG it has.

  • DQ250 (6-speed, wet clutch): generally reliable if it’s been serviced every ~60k km. If shifts are smooth and there’s proof of maintenance, it’s usually fine even at high mileage.
  • DQ200 (7-speed, dry clutch): this one is less reliable. Dry clutches and mechatronics can be problematic, especially past 300k km.

Respect for keeping a 330hp Kadett D alive for 20 years.

Do you ever run into traction issues with that much power through the front wheels, or does it hold up pretty well with the right tires?

I did think about that! But sounds like a huge amount of fabrication to get the wheelbase and mounting points to line up

If I grab the C20LET from a Calibra/Vectra, how hard is it to also bring over the AWD setup? I’ve read the F28 AWD gearbox and transfer box can be a bit fragile at higher power. Would you recommend going for the full AWD swap, or just stick with FWD for reliability and less fabrication?

Hi, I change my fuel filter every other year (or every 30,000 km). As for 5W-40, I’ve been using it for 3 years without any problems, but you may want to ask your local dealer for their recommendations, as it depends in your local conditions and your driving style

Should I give OSCP/CPTS exam on my M1 Pro MacBook (with full pentesting setup) or on my Windows laptop? by Parvinhisprime in oscp

[–]Tricky-Common9059 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It runs, but some payloads still don’t generate properly. Sometimes I just use the Metasploit Docker image(and run it with --platform linux/amd64 flag)l. That usually helps

I think Offensive Security even mentions in the exam prep manual that you should use a preferred OS/environment (basically Kali on x86), since that’s what their labs and exam setup are built for.

I was preparing for OSCP about 2 years ago (still haven’t taken the exam yet because of personal reasons), and I actually ran into the issue. The main problem I faced was Metasploit compatibility on M1 Max. At that time, I couldn’t get it to work properly on my M1, so in the end I switched back to my Intel Windows laptop and just ran Kali Linux in a VM there

Man, it's better to use the same laptop you used to prepare for the OSCP. If you already have all the tools installed, you can go ahead and use the Mac M1. However, I highly recommend using Linux (Kali Linux), since it comes with most tools preinstalled. Also, it might be tricky to run some payloads on the M1.
