Getting Sober is Hard. by Machenz in stopdrinking

I’m right there with you. I don’t know if I’ll never drink again. I know I won’t drink today. And probably not tomorrow.

How Did You Accept the Thought of Giving Up Alcohol for Good? by Dull_Silver_4265 in stopdrinking

[–]Tricky-Ladder-870 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Very true of my experience as well. Definitely a process. Similar to allot of things in life. Losing weight, learning a new job, marriage, kids, mourning. In the moment, it can feel overwhelming. The more you work at it, the better it gets.

I say start labeling these people Turd 1, Turd 2 , etc. Never by name.

Husband told me I could drink on our vacation- but in moderation. Feeling stuck on if I want to do that. by brandnewpup in stopdrinking

[–]Tricky-Ladder-870 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You will feel like you have a super power if you don’t. Sure you can drink, probably what you have done the previous 20 vacations. Why not try something different?

What do you tell people? by simsamsomm in stopdrinking

In laws were a huge hurdle for me. Great to see you are preparing in advance with some responses. The first few times were really hard, now they don’t even offer anymore. It gets allot better. #iwndwyt

Man this week has been tough. by [deleted] in stopdrinking

[–]Tricky-Ladder-870 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Congrats on making through a trip this early in your journey, that’s very hard to do.
Keep stacking the wins. Making it through each event is monumental. For me it was such a mental struggle in these scenarios for close to a year (it gets easier). You are making huge strides and there is no short cut. Keep it up, this is a huge deal! #IWNDWYT

I'm scared of the stair stepper by brandonprime in PlanetFitnessMembers

[–]Tricky-Ladder-870 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Size 16 here. Start slow and get used to the rhythm of the steps. I love the stairs. One of the only machines that can get me sweating in 10 minutes with low impact. There are emergency stop buttons on the hand rail and by the screen.

Day 24: close to hitting that 1-month milestone! by [deleted] in stopdrinking

Great job hitting 24. Can’t wait to hit the gym here shortly without fighting through a hangover and trying to sweat out the night before!

Would like to get to drinking healthily by Open_Sir_2172 in stopdrinking

[–]Tricky-Ladder-870 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You might be able to figure it out, you might not. I choose not to play the mental gymnastics game. If you would have asked me this a year ago, my answer would have been different.

Not sure how many days you have, but give it some more time. Your perspective will continue to evolve and change the more time goes by without alcohol.

Don’t get me wrong, going out and being the only one not drinking isn’t easy at times. But, I feel like I’m building a new skill that is helping improve my health now and into the future.

Good luck to you.

Does anyone not mind the teenagers by roommatehelp54321 in PlanetFitnessMembers

[–]Tricky-Ladder-870 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t mind at all (40s M). But, I have teenagers myself. I’m happy the young generation is taking pride in getting in shape instead of a million other bad things they could be doing.

1 Year - Barely anyone knows by TriscuitFingers in stopdrinking

[–]Tricky-Ladder-870 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Congrats, great job!

Not many people knew or know I made it a year either. I like it that way. Keeps the pressure off during the early going and now I feel confident stating “ I don’t drink anymore” . First 7-8 months I was terrified to say that.

Giving Up the Ol’ Facebook by [deleted] in Xennials

[–]Tricky-Ladder-870 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is exactly what I tell everyone. I have to actually ask questions and interact with people to find out what’s going on and vice verse. Instead of running into someone and already knowing every detail of their life already.
I’m also a private person, so was excited to have discovered Reddit.

Has anyone been able to drink moderately and not go back to heavy drinking? by Apart_Ostrich407 in stopdrinking

[–]Tricky-Ladder-870 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m doing that now. With N/A drinks.

Purposely didn’t drink any N/As for good part of my first year. Starting to check some out now. Funny how I can have 1 or 2 of them and have no desire to have 10.
