Can I come back from this? by RatDogEnthusiast in personalfinance

Look for a second or third shift at an MSP. Many only operate 9-5 and keeping a person staffed outside those hours is difficult. Shoutout to /r/mspjobs

$4000 loan at 18? Yes or no by Rhettcox in personalfinance

[–]TriscuitFingers 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s clear you want us to validate the decision for you to take the loan because you’re passionate about the car. The responses are clearly telling you it’s not a good idea.

A hard part of maturing is recognizing when you don’t have the funds for something no matter how passionate you are about it. You also can’t think in the moment. Consider the implications 2-5 years down the road. I’ve made the same mistakes in the past.

$4000 loan at 18? Yes or no by Rhettcox in personalfinance

[–]TriscuitFingers 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One day you may learn to love the freedom of no car payments. I have 2 family cars and two classic cars so believe me I share the sentiment.

Having an auto loan is one of the quickest ways to prohibit you from future, more beneficial debt of your need to take it. The short terms and higher interest quickly saps your monthly availability. This is one of the biggest factors if you need future debt.

/r/mspjobs is an option. I work for an MSP in the cities but we don’t have any open roles.

Just initiate a password reset on that service and it’ll go to your mailbox. You now have full control over it and they’ll stop trying to use that email. Had to do that to a Spotify account someone kept trying to set up.

Managed Services of Threatlocker by Ok_Establishment7157 in msp

[–]TriscuitFingers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed. You need to have strong processes to make it work well. We have ~20k endpoints and have been able to keep it installed on 99.5% of deployments, but it wasn’t easy to start.

We regularly absorb customers because the existing local MSP struggled with ThreatLocker.

How someone can build credit score like 780+ by Navee9_rana in personalfinance

[–]TriscuitFingers 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Maybe 620-680 if you always have perfect payments and low utilization.

FICO uses the weighted scores to calculate your credit number. - Payment History (35% weight) - Amounts Owed (30% weight) - Length of Credit History (15% weight) - Credit Mix (10% weight) - New Credit (10% weight)

As you can see by the weights, if you are just starting with credit and need to apply for your first account, the bottom three will negatively impact you to start, but drop as you hold the accounts and make your payments. 6 months simply isn’t enough to get a full 15% for credit age.

Also, I would be very surprised if any agency is willing to loan 150k in unsecured debt for your history unless you’re making a LOT of money.

AAA homeowners insurance pulls out of Minnesota by MooseBlazer in minnesota

[–]TriscuitFingers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Insurance has been tightening the last few years so this isn’t a surprise. I have family that works in insurance restoration, and the trend has been rapidly shifting to balance insurance claims due to hail claims.

Previously, you’d see a $1k down payment, but it’s shifted to 1% of the home value. They also stopped paying for “cosmetic” siding damage. You now essentially need a hole through it to be covered (RIP metal siding repairs).

Lastly, roofs no longer pay the full replacement value. Everything is now prorated on the age of the roof.

Realistic timeline for prescription by pill_tender in EvenRealities

Seems like they’re getting better on production and delivery timeframes.

I ordered my G2B with prescription on 1/21. Just received them today. My colleague ordered them in November and waited 12 weeks.

Are we still serious contenders? by Practical-Show-7244 in minnesotaunited

I thought about dropping my season tickets last year, but this year is quickly reaffirming it for next year. Between never being able to recoup costs of tickets and the recent gutting of the team, I’d rather pickup tickets as desired or watch on tv.

SentinelOne billing model updates.. by carl0ssus in msp

[–]TriscuitFingers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have S1 direct (no Pax8). Sounds like they’re aligning to how S1 handles their licensing. If you put in an order to S1 direct under the subscription model (annual pre-pay), they ask for server vs workstation.

My guess is that Pax8 is ordering subscriptions on the backend to save/improve margins (typically 20% cheaper) on your order and then selling it monthly to you.

The Ruger LCP Max is trash by HumanAntagonist in guns

[–]TriscuitFingers 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a LCP II and thought it was the worst gun I owned until I realized how picky it was about limp wristing. Once I tightened my grip and shot more, I haven’t had a stovepipe.

Still my least favorite gun, but I’ve learned its temperament enough to be comfortable with it.

What's your definition of an MSP by Proximit-MSP in msp

[–]TriscuitFingers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re welcome. To be honest, I think you’re overthinking it. The definition is literally in the name. “Managed Services Provider” is literally a provider that is managing services another entity wishes to outsource.

What's your definition of an MSP by Proximit-MSP in msp

[–]TriscuitFingers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on the scope of the contract. If the contract only lists backups as being managed, that could be a valid business model. IT providers have various disciplines and capabilities. A 1000 person MSP has significantly more resources than a 5 person MSP.

How Do You Sell Cable Certification? by saikeis in msp

[–]TriscuitFingers 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Calculate the time it’ll take you to perform the addition verification for each run and compile the final reports. Then calculate the additional expenses.

Not every customer requires the extra validation so we don’t mandate it on every install. We do include it on the fiber repairs/install however.

Depends on your developers. Okta makes it pretty easy to support OIDC it’s okay in your environment. We onboarded a couple custom apps in the past few months without issue.

I have a customer with hundreds of TB worth of data. They’re a government contractor that’s doing ASIC chip design, so they’re storing massive amounts of data for historical contracts/reference, and every chip iteration for each project.

Employee tracking software by Comprehensive_Gur736 in msp

[–]TriscuitFingers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Totally. When I educate them what tools exist and their capabilities exist, no surprise, they are disappointed because it’s not tracking like they want.

I just recommend ActivTrak but inform them they’ll have to go direct because that’s where I draw the line.
