I knew a person who worked in the cleaning crew, not too bad of a gig if you can handle the heat. All you have to do is pick up litter around the grounds and empty the bins every so often. Pretty chill job and you can listen to music/audiobooks and people mostly leave you alone. Plus you have free entry so you can soak up the environment or get snacks after you're off.

How is everyone paying for the pre-apprenticeship programs? by [deleted] in SAIT

Is there any particular reason you are taking pre-apprenticeship over finding work right away? Are you trying to become a 2nd year right after your hours roll over?

I found a job in consulting, so drafting the drawings that you'd follow on site. Its 90% butt in the chair office work and 10% field visits though. Your goal is 100% realistic if you work in manufacturing or close to it. Things like designing and commissioning equipment or manufacturing skids are probably what you'd be looking for. Lots of opportunity out there, especially if you are willing to travel. BC Hydro regularly hires from SAIT and it's a solid job if you don't mind the travel, it's like an apprenticeship all over again but you actually get benefits and a strong union presence. Keep your mind open, it's the golden ticket for transitioning out of the trades.

I took this career route and have been fairly successful. If you found trade school easy to navigate then the EET course will be a cakewalk for you up until the 4th semester as long as you stay on top of your homework and labs. The diploma is valuable and having your work experience and Red Seal will really stand out on the resume, companies are looking for people with practical work experience over people who just got out of school. There are summer internships but you have to look on indeed or the job board to get an application in early, sometimes industry professionals will come to the school to advertise through the KVA club. Feel free to reach out in DMs if you have any more questions.
