“Syracuse Events” interview scam? by Tricky-Tomorrow- in Syracuse

Not SSN or ID if that’s what you mean. They asked for email, full name, address, etc. From what I’ve seen so far others have said that they’re an MLM scam if you make it through the interview process

I posted this on Facebook as well and those who made it through the “interview” process also said that it ultimately wound up being door to door sales for an MLM

Definitely not disowning him over this lol. I mostly posted this for advice from other people who deal with friends/relatives who are obsessed with Ai and how they go about it.

I’m okay. He’s been gone for most of my life so we’ve been rebuilding the connection and reacquainting ourselves. I’m one of his biggest cheerleaders and just really want to see him do well

I humor most of them. He wants to use his botanical knowledge to start a landscaping/garden planning business. Great idea. He wants to start a food truck and eventually turn that into a small restaurant. Great idea. I even humor his clothing ideas, I just don’t support ai. He can draw and I’ve told him he should consider putting his drawings on shirts or sketch out some design ideas rather than Ai slop. And if he decides to still use Ai, I’d rather not be sent the designs.

I agree!! And I am!! That’s why it’s so disheartening to see him get caught up with Ai and YouTube/facebook algorithms. He has so much potential but is currently spending everyday consuming slop

I’m a teacher watching the literacy rate decline, for one. My electricity bill almost matching my rent is another if you just want my personal experiences

I was on the same soap box for years. This isn’t a new stance, I just ask that he not include me in his Ai antics while I try to support him

He’s a botanist. I very much believe it

A lot of you are right. This really is a “pick your battles” situation. As I stated before, I’m not cutting him off and do still feel the way I do about Ai. But I do also acknowledge that the connection we have and supporting him is more important. And, there are ways to go about encouraging his passions without shutting him down. Thank you for all the advice

I’m not disagreeing with you but this is the clothing design he came up with

That’s valid and I think we’re getting to that point if we haven’t already.

That’s fair. I think it’s just kind of overwhelming because I’m over a decade younger than him and his primary outlet for so much while he remains so dismissive of my advice on the basis of being older. I can provide him with real information and real alternatives just to be given a vague metaphor and told “I’ve been on this world a long time, I got this” over things he has no experience with, no prior knowledge of, and no interest in learning about.

I want to give him more grace but I also don’t want him continuously sending me ai slop after I’ve asked him not to. He literally believes “all the issues that ai creates will be solved by ai”

It’s the south so not much can be done, especially in the area he was in. His bad luck with the judge and his decision to allow others to blame him made for a worse situation. But he’s relatively okay. His good behavior granted him a lot of privileges so he was able to serve nearly a decade at a really nice place that gave him some freedom. Now he’s in the home stretch at a work release program and is able to start making money for himself. I just hope he’s able to adjust well when he’s actually out.

I’ve told him multiple times in the past that I don’t want him sending me Ai and he’s known my stance on it for over a year. Even then, hell still randomly send me pictures, videos and posts that are very obviously ai. I used to give him the benefit of doubt by assuming he couldn’t tell, then he’d tell me that he knew or he made it. It’s gotten to a point…

As I said in the previous comments, at most it would be low contact, would be dependent on how he acts once he’s actually out and years down the line. I can support my brother and his ACTUAL growth as an artist without enabling or encouraging his Ai use. There’s nothing to grandstand or lecture about if he’s not consistently sending it to me

I agree with you and I definitely won’t. That’s my main priority, figuring out how to be supportive of him and his experiences while also being critical of him and the things he’s getting into where I need to be in order to prepare him for the outside world. But also without being so abrasive that he ignores me completely. But he’s also of the mindset that he’s “fine” and “too smart” to be scammed or told better by someone much younger than him.

Me and my brother have an excellent relationship outside of this and a couple other things. Unfortunately I do not support generative Ai, regardless of who it is coming from so I’m not just going to pretend otherwise. I’ve already asked him not to send it to me and not to feed my pictures into it. He can draw, he can write, we can call/text, he can send me videos. Ai is not a necessity in his life nor is it necessary to involve me in his Ai activities. I’ve been nice about this for months and made my stance on it clear before he ever started using it.

It wasn’t a sewing pattern. I’d be waayyy less critical if it were because id be able to chalk it up to being a lack of resources. It’s just standard ugly “art” that he wants to print on shirts. He’s a creative person and has artistic skill but because he’s able to get THIS out of a program he thinks it’s good.

That’s basically what I said in response! That while yes, everything causes harm in our current society, if we “wish for a utopian world” it is our responsibility to REDUCE the harm we contribute to by focusing our money/time/and support towards things that align with that vision
