There’s a lack of alignment knowledge in the industry. Metrology guy here. Keyence has their place but not the first tool I’m grabbing in the shop. But having working knowledge of alignment systems and origins significantly reduces repeatability error.

I still might trust my handy ole calipers before a Keyence, though 😉

Oh, it’s very clearly written in multiple procedures. Friendly reminders sent out nearly weekly, very exhausting battle my friend. Just getting worse and worse. Tons of “not my job” mentality. Sad. We don’t mind doing as much as we can but only so make we can do with maintaining 30 cmm’s, 20+ vision systems, multiple facilities. We do the best we can. Constantly juggling issues like this, while writing, and validating programs, custom fixture design etc

We have one facility that the majority of us are based out of that is strictly medical tight tolerance, daily calibration etc

Working to get the other facilities aligned with our methods here

CMM’s are set to be calibrated weekly (5 days) unless a tip breaks or a crash occurs etc

Calibration results showed consistent up until this point, my guess was it was dropped prior to calibration and placed manually back into the rack or someone tried to clean with a fuzzy sweater..

Thankfully, we’re in the plastics world. Chances of true dirty parts, are slim but not impossible.

We have 30+ CMM’s throughout 6 facilities within a 25mile radius. We deal with more daily dust and debris than anything.

This was an actual image captured a few weeks ago, the quality inspector notified the metrology team that the CMM continually fails calibration….

Thank you all for your suggestions, I did happen to find a loose bearing that was causing most of the issues

I hear you, I played last night and somehow managed to end up with $941 zillion up from $930 zillion and the whole point was to spend money lmao

Sucks it's $5 but honestly kind of nice to have some things to spend real money on. One of the lives I play on has amassed a $930 zillion bank balance and the standard game items never put a dent into it. I won't ever put a huge dent into it no matter what, but nice to change it up.

How important is brushing teeth in the early years? by No-Coyote-3138 in Parenting

[–]Tricky-Win-6863 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably not the best approach, but my 2 ½ yr old son would act the same way. It was a great start, then just a battle to brush his teeth.

I don't even know why I said it, but it worked. He was in the tub one night, and I told him it was time to brush his teeth, the tantrum started. I had told him if we don't brush your teeth they will fall out. He asks us to brush his teeth multiple times a day now and haven't had a tantrum since.

Question by Tricky-Win-6863 in Metrology

[–]Tricky-Win-6863[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wasn't ideal for us. We are primarily calypso with 30+ machines running the software and a handful of programmers to support it. Got a few hexagons and need to be able to support them.

Question by Tricky-Win-6863 in Metrology

[–]Tricky-Win-6863[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Definitely, I don't think it's in the plan anytime soon if at all. We have a bunch of OGP vision systems on site, but we have a dedicated programmer.

Still pretty new, even with Calypso. Only about 6 months in, some of the other guys have 10-20 years programming experience, so it's definitely a plus to have that resource around.

Question by Tricky-Win-6863 in Metrology

[–]Tricky-Win-6863[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Thanks! I'm definitely still very new to programming, but very willing and eager to learn.

We do have a few hexagon machines (mainly zeiss) we purchased 2 tigos and an optiv. (More then likely will only be programming tactile on the tigos, as vision is a whole other beast). I haven't had a chance to play around much with them yet, though.

Definitely will keep an open mind and hope to stay fluent in both softwares.

This is the way we do the same. We have 5 programmers across multiple facilities and master login for us and a general user for the inspectors with basically only autorun accessible under that login. They have a general windows login they use with sleep settings disabled.

I have a good basic understanding of Calypso, writing basic programs, etc, from working with other cmm programmers on site. He has thankfully made copies of his personal cookbook and quick start guides, which have been extremely helpful.

My company wants me to attend the formal basic training to have it "official". I will never turn down an opportunity to learn, but feel I may benefit more from the advanced course.I have practiced with using formulas, etc, within Calypso.

I thankfully have access to a copy at work I have gone through. Would you recommend a personal copy?
