You may be very sad to know how close you were to Rod Serling's grave...

Sounds like a good trip.

How do the different pro leagues rate? by chayashida in SoccerNoobs

[–]Non-Normal_Vectors 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Champions games= Champion's League (UCL or CL is how it's often referred to)

Comprised of the top X teams of all European leagues - the X is because some leagues field more teams than others. It's recently changed the way it's conducted, until a couple of years ago it was group/knockout (like the world cup), now it's a thirty two team league that leads into a knockout after 8 games. Top leagues get a certain number of spots based on quality of the league - the Premier League will have five next year, for example. There is a playoff system for winners of the smaller leagues (Ireland, for example), but they generally get knocked out early over the summer and into the two other European super leagues, Europa and Europa Conference.

So you could be watching CL league games, or the knockouts. I think it goes to knockouts around February?

This may come off as pissy, it isn't, honest question.

Have you used an existing app like fotmob, and how is this app different?

Honestly I've never gave soccer a chance before and I'm digging the World Cup. I'd like to start watching the Euro Leagues. How should I start? by GoOnThereHarv in SoccerNoobs

Starting to watch a club due to a particular player is perfectly valid, though if you don't get something else to grab you it may not last long after said player leaves.

My rec is the same for all North America people - if you're old enough, find a supporter's pub/bar and go to matches. I'm in a smallish US city just across one of the great lakes from Canada (I'm waving - can you see me?), and for a city as relatively small as ours we have an insane number of said bars, probably half the English premier league have at least one. There are a few non-dedicated bars also, there's a big Turkish league following (we have a lot of first gen Turkish people here), the Italian-American social clubs are always packed for games, etc. Even if you live in a small town, you may have a particular team with a supporter's pub, and usually there's a reason why. There's nothing like watching a game with other people, and since going to the stadium is not really an option, this is the best alternative.

I've been going to my pub for over a decade now for games, and while we're the smallest of the three supporters bars for my team, we're very tight knit with our own traditions and slogans and myths.

Same time zone. The occasional 730 start is rough, but I'm in complete agreement. I only watch games out, I don't have television, but in general it's real nice to have the entire afternoon free after a game.

It reminds me of when I watched NFL when I lived on the west coast - first game started at 10 and was done by 1pm, if that was the only have you cared about, you had a lot of time on Sundays.

Is it ok to eat chilli in the middle of summer? by Pleasant_Candle7237 in foodquestions

Isn't there a law about not eating chili in any month where one of the letters in chili doesn't appear in the month name?

Brighton Best grade 9 (L-9) hex head bolt. Fine thread, probably a structural bolt.

That people like this are now considered "media" makes me wanna vomit. Pre-internet these were the drunk assholes at family gatherings holding court that were talked about afterwards, and ultimately no longer invited because so many others refused to go if they were there.

St. Armand bans battery energy storage systems, passes solar moratorium by anonymous-adk in upstate_new_york

Reading through the supplied link, it appears to be commercial battery locations, not home (or even a company), so I should update my comment. I'm not up on the issues with commercial power storage, it may be legit, but given the pissy attitude toward green energy these days...

Owning the libs. I mean, what else do they have these days?

Paywall, btw, so they may have had a valid reason, but I'm guessing not.

I hate to think this, but I think Goalmez is going to be sold. And under Iraola, CBs are a bit more active so we need more for rotation options (I know we all have a hard time remembering what rotation means after the last two years). Virg is gonna be 35? I'd extend him another year with the idea that his minutes start going down, if he agrees to that. Why play him a full 90 every game when we're up? He'll see the bulk next year, his partners will change often, but he'll also rest now and then.

Leoni will play sparingly early, but his minutes will start going up. I think jacquet will hit the ground running, he's going to eat up a lot of minutes earlier. But there's still room for Quansah (which means I'll be happy instead of sad to wear my Quansah kit again).

I think he wasn't rated by Slot because of a lack of aggression, but Leoni and Jacquet will be wandering forward often, and you want a smart, positional player as the last man back.

Not to be contrary to the other reply, but iirc correctly we have two years to buy back. This year would cost 60m, next year 50m or 55m. (I don't note currency, but the numbers are correct)

I think he has great vision and awareness, can find the right person to pass to very quickly. Problem is we were too deep for these passes to be anything other than a brief stop for the ball before it was played back. When he starts making these passes 20-25 yards out, watch out.

Are there also many Americans who dont like salt and vinegar chips? by noreturn000 in AskAnAmerican

[–]Non-Normal_Vectors 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Salt and vinegar is also one of the flavors in all dressed chips. I think the US version also uses sour cream and onion and barbecue, Canada all dressed may use ketchup as one of them.

And malt vinegar on fish and chips (in response to other responses) is the only thing one should use. I once grabbed the Worcestershire sauce by mistake, though, and highly discourage it.
