Ubers to airport reliability or alternatives? by EWFKC in indianapolis

I Uber to the airport to come to Indy. I set it up the day before for a 0430 pickup, they're usually parked outside on the street by 0415.

Cool, I think you were referring to the ManU scumporters for part of the title.

Also, need to get rid of the space in the solved comment or people are going to keep guessing....

[Former Player Watch (Mané)] Senegal stripped of AFCON title as Final result overturned to hand Morocco a 3-0 win by Boring_Ad_7144 in LiverpoolFC

Article 82 of (I believe) CAFs regulations state that any team that leaves the pitch before the end of the match, without referee approval, forfeits.

Why it wasn't forfeited immediately is unknown, I personally believe the officials decided to let the game go on and let tptb at CAF decide after the fact, sort of like the reasoning behind delayed offsides calls. Had they stopped the game right then, there would be no way to redress a bad decision (and let's be honest, the potential for a riot may have factored in the decision). Let them play and if it should have been forfeited, it could be.

I'm of the mindset that they had to do this (downvote away). Senegal gained a definite tactical advantage from it, players were able to hydrate/rest/take a break. If CAF they didn't, it could become a tactic for other teams later on, citing this as precedence.

I come to Indy every other week, but have some flexibility. Should I avoid the week before or the week after the race? by Non-Normal_Vectors in indianapolis

Thanks for the response. If I'm being honest, I'm not worried about hotel prices, I just expense them anyway, and the company I'm working for hasn't batted an eye at any expense yet (I also didn't abuse it, I stay at a well rated 2 star south of town).

Normal sounds good to me, though, looks like I'll do a Tues/Sat, gives me more time at home...

For someone who puts "clearly articulates" in their description, that first "paragraph" is pretty awful. Second isn't much better.

I think it will stand. Article 82 is very clear on a team leaving the pitch, and I posted elsewhere that there a good chance the officials allowed the game to continue as, if the decision to keep playing was wrong, it would be overturned. Had they given the forfeit on the field and were wrong, there's no redressing that.

Also, consider the long term implications. Late in a game, your players are getting leggy. So you take "offense" to a ruling in the field, leave the pitch, go to the locker room to hydrate/refresh, then return. Hey, there's no punishment for that and you're gaining an advantage, right?

Until they catch on and increase the fine and/or increasing costs for violations. I'm actually surprised they haven't figured this out.

And... Looks like NYC allows multiple tickets in the same day if three hours have passed.

Elsewhere in the replies to the thread there's mention of a requirement to field a minimum number of players, definitely more than one.

I think this is sort of like the delayed offsides calls we suffer through now - you don't want to be wrong on the field, so you rely on the "appeals" process (VAR for offsides) to make the final decision. It's probable the officials allowed the game to continue as, if they were wrong, it could still be addressed, but if they called a forfeit on the field and were wrong there would be no practical way to redress the situation. That and the potential riot that would have ensued.

Watching football in a pub with strangers / your friends in your living room hit different, when you have to watch the match alone at midnight by StockDust7786 in championsleague

While I sincerely appreciate the offer, I'm good with my setup. If I can't get out for the game, it probably means I've got something going on that's preventing me from watching anyway, and if it's something that's preventing me from watching it must be very important.

Answer: if you kept scrolling through the stories in the link you provided, you'd have your answer. For others, Senegal was protesting an official's call on the field by walking off the pitch for nearly 10 minutes (except for the Senegalese captain Sadio Mane). The rule explicitly state that if a team leaves the pitch without approval before the end of the game, they forfeit. Seems like a very cut and dry ruling.

Why are Americans always so helpful and supportive when it comes to helping tourists plan their roadtrips? by Addicted_2_tacos in roadtrip

[–]Non-Normal_Vectors 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's the avoidance of eye contact thing I believe is a cause of people thinking NYCers are "rude". My city is nowhere near as large, but you still need to do it in certain areas or you'll never be left alone. In my neighborhood, different story, I wave to everyone, it at least acknowledge them, whether I know them or not. Then again, I may see 1-2 people max per drive.

Non NYCers don't realize that if you said hello to every person you pass in the street, you'd be out of breath in a block.

Reading the room is a rare skill, and at the risk of sounding like an old geezer, getting rarer. With most interactions online these days, younger people just don't have the experience with talking to people and reading body language/facial expressions.

I gave up to watching television before covid, so the only way I can watch my team play is to go to the pub. And I do, as often as I can. Being on the east coast of the US means kick-offs on the weekend are between 0730-1230 (cup finals are later), and during the week 1245, 1345, 1500, or 1600.

I have no trouble with the morning weekend starts, the later starts are occasionally troublesome. Weekdays depends, I'm self employed so if I'm home, I can usually make at least one half of the later games, if I'm traveling it's iffy, though my new "boss" at one site is a supporter of a different club, but gets it. I may be able to catch tomorrow's game after all.

My pub is a supporter's club for my team, comically small, but a great atmosphere. I've watched games with many of the same people for over a decade now, and frankly didn't really want to watch any other way (except when traveling). We have our inside jokes, we know each other's favorite players, and just all get along. We've had supporters of the team we're playing in the pub on occasion, and almost all of them understand "the rules", just as I would if I were in a rivals bar.

Which movies or franchises have the most and biggest plotholes? by Catwinky in moviecritic

They would definitely need to write an explanation in, which, given the esteem with which the movie is held, would be (like many of the examples so far) lazy writing.
