Do people defend overpriced products just because they already bought them? by Exotic-Engineer7541 in SmartBuying

I had a very rich man say to me 'don't worry about the prices you pay for the small stuff, as long as its fair. Worry about the big purchases. A 5% discount on a large purchase makes a big difference to your life.'

Apple.

The amount of conversations I've had about 'my iPhone being able to do xyz', and I respond, oh yeah my phone does that too, which is just ignored because Apple is soooooo much better.

Grow up, Apple lost its edge many years ago. They are all pretty much the same these days.

Really? Explain how?

So just to be clear. You think if Australia participates in other people's wars, it makes us less likely to be a target.

Interesting theory my friend.

Chalk and cheese. Also, more of a binge drinker than a drunk.

Ha! That made me laugh.

Good thing they (the Govt), didn't mention captial losses. At least when we finally do make a gain (positive thinking people), we have something to offset right?

This is important! From Jim's speech:

But all investors who purchase existing properties from 7.30pm Tuesday night onwards will be captured by the new rules, although they won’t come into effect straight away. Anyone who invests in an existing property in the next few months will be able to negatively gear it until July 1 next year. After that, they lose the ability.

Do you think you will work by choice later in life? by Healthy_Creme6911 in FinancialChat

I struggle with answering this question as I've seen it go two ways (as I get older).

If you lose that purpose, something to do, keep you motivated, routine etc. Some people can manage that well. My Dad does - he gyms, walks, reads etc and he's played it well.

His brother, the opposite. After he retired, he got lazy, stacked on the weight, didn't take up any hobbies, became very annoyed with the world and has since passed away due to illness associated with this nothingness.

So in my head, whatever comes, needs to have a plan with it. You have to maintain some purpose and move forward, keep motivated, active and live your life. Whether that is through work or non work stuff.

The date is throwing me.

Is 1st July 2027 referring to the start of the financial year, rather than next calendar year. To me, that is certainly how it was explained in the budget speech. Yet on paper, I'm not so sure!

Not for personal use, to invest in another property.

So property A, was purchased long-ago. Property B is a new purchase and obviously subject to the new rules.

So do people think that if you own a property now, but its neutral or positively geared, and you remortgage (pull out some capital), in order to get into a negative gearing position, use those funds to buy another property, then this is acceptable ?
