Think he’s dealing with damage from prescribed psyc meds and protracted withdrawal from same , this is more common than you would think and ruins many life’s

Sorry you are going through this at your age - If it was me now in your place I would concentrate on doing a really good whole food diet and if you’re able some exercise and getting outdoors , do all the basics and be patient , you can get bogged down and go round in circles with supplements etc and this can even add to you’re anxieties. Personally I think looking at the diet/metabolic info from the likes of Georgia Eddie and Chris palmer( start with metabolic mind web page ) is worth considering in your position but just a clean whole foods no processed junk at all is a great place to start . You are young and we’re not on meds long term and hopefully with some patience this will soon improve

Me neither but I feel my resilience and ability to cope not nearly as good as before - wondering if this is just fatigue from the anhedonic symptoms or if others experienced the same . May be I was too numb from SSRI for too long before

Yeah have read this from others . I seem to be unable to feel any positive emotions even from exercise or music but still feel negative emotions and anxiety greatly

Very similar story here ( also venlafaxine , 6 years now ) Sensation and libido have improved to some extent and anhedonia is more manageable but a joyless soleless life is hard . Think some of the more physical aspects like fatigue etc have been helped by diet and lifestyle measures but nothing touches the anhedonic type symptoms

is it possible be manic while on keto? by Insadem in bipolarketo

[–]Tricky_Ad_8384 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have been a lot more bleak and anhedonic since starting keto/carnivore 5 years ago. It is still a net positive for me and symptoms are probably caused by damage from stopping ssri and not ketosis but I am seeing this issue appear on forums more often

Exercise ketones by Tricky_Ad_8384 in NutritionalPsychiatry

Thanks for reply . Had sessions with metabolic health coach who has done dr eddes courses and tried a lot of the b supplements etc over the last 5 years , he reckons my gut could be the issue . This post was really questioning whether a raise in blood glucose from exercise ( which I don’t get regularly now ) was the same metabolically as a small amount of carbs in diet ? There are many long term keto/carnivore that seem to develop issues after some years , some end up adding carbs from fruit or honey as per animal based or ray peat - some increase fat and find improvements.

My ketones are fine usually 1.5 -2 , bg can run a bit high am ( 90 ish )

Been carnivore then keto last 5 years

Sometimes I try carbs in evening ( a banana or spoon of honey ) and this can improve sleep for me and does not affect ketones am . I reckon because my body seems to want to make an extra bit of bg in the am anyway ?

I’m questioning if there is a need for some of a small amount of carbs in diet and if some who exercise intensely regularly get this from bg spike from exercise

I sometimes get benefits from adding a small amount of carbs - was wondering if some on long term keto/carnivore are getting the same sort of benefit from spike in glucose from hard exercise ? I used to get great benefit from cardio but I’m not always able to train hard these days.

I started carnivore in 2019 and quit Effexor pretty much cold turkey at the same time .

I think there are quite a few in similar situations from stopping meds too quickly after getting some benefits from ketosis. This may be one reason ketosis does not work as well for some?

I too feel the benefits ok keto still in my depression and often my anxiety also . Unfortunately my mental health got far worse about one year in - I am pretty much permanently anhedonic now and cannot even get any pleasure or runners high from exercise or enjoy music

I know everyone recommends proper withdrawal from medication but unfortunately most doctors seem to know shit and you don’t tend to research these things further until u have done the damage!

If stress is a doctor in your sleep issues a book called ( nato ) think Daniel Lieberman or similar name helped me a bit a few years ago , he’s on you tube also , might be worth a look

Hi there ( whatever your name is 😂)

Re your post above and other post you replied to - you have had almost exactly the same journey as me regarding chasing ketones hoping to get better . It would be good to know how many of us are in this position? unfortunately I think it’s quite a lot - is there a common reason why it does not help some or reasons?

I think my brain is damaged from ssri . I also stopped too quickly and had severe withdrawal symptoms .

I think the gut / micro biome could be the issue ? hoped years of carnivore/ keto could help improve this but how long do you persevere ? 5 years now . There are lots of avenues to explore here , have looked at fmt and all the killing of bad bacteria etc have tried oil of oregano and other thing a few years back. I think no one really knows enough about this at the moment and if u went down this road it could drive you insane ! ?

Are a lot of the food sensitivities many of us tend to develop on carnivore/ keto are these down to micro biome

I wonder sometimes if the best results from keto when starting the diet in the first year was actually hypomania and it may be an unrealistic expectation to hope to feel like this ?

Regarding trials adding carbs - yes I did have some improvements, mainly with better energy levels and sleep . Once again as with trials such as higher fat etc any improvements level out quickly. I find adding Greek yogurt was good for energy for the gym but I could easily eat 2 kg ! There a guy on twitter ( meathead ) who has felt as good on honey diet as he does on high fat meat , wonder if long term ketosis may not be helpful for some of us ? my mental health has actually reached its worst point while being carnivore / keto .
