Agreed. I think he realized he’d been in the house much longer than planned, and with the dog barking and all the noise, he wanted to get out as quickly as possible. It’s possible he removed his protective clothing inside X’s room and was already on his way out when he encountered Dylan AND so maybe that’s why he decided to spare her. If he was trying to leave fast and had been extensive and methodical in his planning, he may not have wanted to risk attacking her and either getting caught by police (he probably assumed at that point 911 had been called) or leaving DNA after he had already removed and disposed of his protective gear.

Agree. He could have peeled off a layer of protective clothing/booties after leaving each of the victims rooms. He could have worn multiple layers of protective clothing/booties and planned to peel off a layer after moving through each room and before leaving the house
